Hyperthyroidism: Share your experiences
Hi, I just found this forum and hope to get some shared experience. My wife (age 50) has low TSH 0.11 ulU/Ml, Free T4 at 1.49 ng/dL (range 0.89-1.76 ng/dL). Free T3 4.40 pg/Ml (range 2.3-4.20 pg/Ml) (elevated). She lost 10 lbs and has trouble sleeping which is why her PCP ordered such tests. Her PCP wants her to see an endocrinologist. we are in process of setting this up.
But I wonder if anyone has had similar issue and can share your experience on seeing doctor and treatments (what works and what doesn't). Even we are going to rely on the doctor, we want to research as much as we can before seeing doctor with questions ready. thank you so much.

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism ( Graves disease) about 2 years ago. It is being controlled with medication well.
@mcmurf2, @dknight01, @adpetty, @kimspr3, @mcmurf2, did you take any meds for hyperthyroidism? Has anyone gotten drug induced lupus from tge hyperthyroidism meds? Did anyone take iodine?
Chronic pain , headaches, muscle weakness, lack of energy , anxiety. I have had IBS for years. Every test comes back negative.
I just had my thyroid tested via lab work and my T 4 is elevated and I will be seeing an endocrinologist.
Suggestions?
Have you had your calcium and parathyroid levels checked with blood tests? Some of those symptoms can be from hyperparathyroidism (glands located behind your thyroid).
No but I will ty!
The original discussion on Hyperthyroidism started in 2019 but is drawing recent attention. I have a history of hyperthyroidism or Graves Disease diagnosed in 2001. My endocrinologist diagnosed it (I’m also diabetic). She prescribed a medication, but I’ve forgotten what. She continued monitoring with blood labs over the years. What most caught my attention at the time was a comment she made. She said it can be common for hyperthyroidism to reverse over time to hypothyroidism. I’m no longer on medication, have no symptoms of either condition and my Dr. continues to monitor my labs. Has anyone else heard of this or experienced it?
Hey Dwight,my name is Bo and I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism as a kid.Had thyroid surgery at age 14 in which a portion of my thyroid was removed(75%).To me the unseen effects had taken hold.Being hyperactive as a kid had many effects that had taken its roots mentally, the key word here is hyper,as a kid in school disciplined many times, teachers would say you are nothing like your brothers or sisters.Hear that enough and you start to believe.Im not tell you this to discourage you but we have to relearn to manage things.Hopefully you don't go through this but now days people have help options. My family doctor as a kid didn't catch it,actually it was my brother did and a surgeon verified the size was to big,I think it was referred to a a goiter.Ive seen a post where someone on here went through this with there family doctor and said it was not a issue only to be verified my a specialist.Im not bashing family doctors but that's the way it was for me.I hope this helps you its very controllable with meds(labs)and possibly surgery.Ihope this helps you and I wish you the best for you.Bo
Yes,I feel that's what I'm going through now, putting on the weight but my doctors insist that its diet, have asked many times to increase thyroid medication but declined said labs don't support it.Have appt. in June and will try again for a increase in ,adds a new meaning if you've ever been around the table(one day at a time) but at age 70 next month don't know how many more are left.Im so glad to hear your having a positive outcome.
I made a post and filed in the wrong spot, sorry'
Hi Everyone,
I’m debating whether to get radio-iodine therapy to treat my hyperthyroid. I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroid for 7 years now. I was very bad at taking any medicines and didn’t take anything for years. I don’t have any of the symptoms that is normally associated with hyperthyroid. I feel pretty normal and have not lose any weight over the years. 8 months ago, my doctor said it’s time for me to do the radioiodine therapy treatment. I’m having many doubts about getting the treatment. Since I don’t have any symptoms, feels like I’m going to be signing up for hypothyroid and will have other issues such as gaining weight and also having to take hormones the rest of my life. Am I wrong to think this way? I did also get a second opinion from another doctor and he also said I should get radio iodine. I’m really worried about gaining weight since I’m already a bit overweight. I am 51 year old female and 203 lbs. really would love some insights from someone who has done it and their experience after therapy.
