Mayo Rochester- my suggestion for lodging when having SURGERY
I had my first Mayo Rochester visit earlier this month. I had a surgery scheduled along with various other appts (ultrasound, biopsy, and virtual and in person dr visits spaced over a week. What I found was surgeries are done at St Marys hospital and other appts are at Mayo Clinic gonda and other connected buildings which is several blocks away from the hospital.
My suggestion is if you are having surgery at St Marys choose a hotel closer to that then to Mayo Clinic. It was easier to take the shuttles with maybe a 10 minute ride and leave our car parked in free parking. The shuttle definitely assures less walking with door to door drop offs.
ASPEN SUITES-
We chose ASPEN SUITES, steps away from the hospital. You can use the shuttle to take you to all appointments and surgeries M-F and they provide the schedule when you arrive. Aspen Suites provides safe FREE underground parking with a close-by elevator that takes you right to the lobby or your floor. They have a pool with a lift and also walk-in steps and a hot tub. If you need room additions such as a toliet riser or shower chair they will bring them to your room. All rooms have a RECLINER and sofa (I needed the recliner for after surgery) plus a kitchenette with full size fridge, stove top (no oven), microwave, sink, dishwasher, stocked with dishes/pots/etc. They have a nice FREE daily changing breakfast menu with hot items. On M-Th they have a light FREE dinner different each nigh with things such as soups, stews, mac & cheese with mini sausages, sandwiches, etc. They have a patio with a grill to use. It is also right next door to the food places like Candian Honker and City Market Deli.
If you end up not needing all the days booked just let them know by noon and they don't charge for the additional days. If you are staying over 30 days they can treat it as a lease and remove the taxes and adjust your bill. We found them to be a very good choice for us. Prices seem to vary depending on dates but look to start about $129 .

@michigankelly I did stay at Aspen Suites with my first surgery at St. Mary's Hospital and it is a nice place to stay. It is literally across the street and you can walk and enter the hospital through the Tower entrance instead of the drive up front entrance. I have found other hotels with equal amenities like full kitchens and suites that cost less. I do like Candlewood Suites which is near the Corn water tower in Rochester. We have a car with us, so driving to hospital parking or the Clinic has not been an issue. The shuttles visit both places and service most hotels there.
This blog link shows pictures of St. Mary's Hospital including the Tower entrance that is right across from Aspen Suites and the Canadian Honker Restaurant.

I'm at the Staybridge for St. Mary's surgery and appts.
Is that good. They say they have a shuttle... 🙂
I will be staying at the Centerstone Plaza for my first visit (in early Aug). I am not sure where I will stay for my second visit (end of Aug). I like that they have a shuttle that is on call.
We stayed at the Brentwood Inn that has access to Underground Mayo Clinic walkway. That was a few years ago when I had my stem cell transplant… During my treatment we stayed at The Gift Of Life House….Splendid Place……for long term stay with shuttle service to Mayo Clinic. 🙏❤️
How was it?
That's where I'll be on the 15th of this month.
Any ideas, any tips?
I have a multitude of tests that week and then surgery on the 24th. That's why I booked the Staybridge close to St. Mary's.
I also stayed at Aspen Suites when I had my surgery. It was a little pricey but since my kids and husband mom and sister were with me- we got a suite and it worked perfectly. They could walk across the street and see me whenever I needed them and leave when I rested. We were there over Thanksgiving and they also had Thanksgiving dinner for my family- it was really great. They had parking but because there is a shuttle that went anywhere they needed we returned the car and used shuttles.
Staybridge is GREAT! I have stay there numerous times in fact every visit but one. You get a Mayo discount, great breakfast every morning. It’s right across the street from St Mary’s where I also had my 11 hour surgery so my family just walked back and forth. There is a shuttle to Mayo but I walked to every appt. at Gonda. They also have special appetizer evenings with beer and wine other drinks I think Monday - Thursday’s. You get a nice kitchen and everything is new.
We've stayed at springhill suites twice. Once a short stay, and one extended stay. It is a very short walk to St. Marys, but also offers shuttle service to the hospital and mayo clinic. The rooms were great, spacious with a kitchenette and very comfortble. They offer a wonderful breakfast, with different hot and cold options daily. It is a little cheaper than some of the other suite options close by, and if you mention a stay for Mayo they offer a discount. Also they do have free parking.

I was in a farm accident June '22, my recovery involved a few hospital stays, 4 surgeries, and I'm left with approx. 50% of my scalp being sking grafts. The trauma and physical strain it took me to survive also caused reverse tokatsubo in my heart. I don't even remember where I heard of connect, but I joined in hopes of finding my way through the trauma and the anxiety/depression from all I went through, and what my life now looks like. Thanks for the welcome!
