My GFR Dropped from 54 to 44

So sorry for your frightening experiences. I take blood pressure meds, antidepressants, a pill for my potassium and blood pressure, cholesterol meds, etc., etc. My Nephrologist is aware of all my meds and I trust him. Yes, I am concerned about the drop to in a couple of weeks I will see my Neph. Thank you for your comments, I appreciate it. : )

Are you still taking Farxiga? It brought my GFR down 27 points so I quit.

I have never taken this medication.

For some people, acupuncture can play an important part of stability. I was lucky because my acupuncturist also has a Ph.D in Immunology from Vanderbilt University. Her thesis was kidney disease. One of the most difficult parts of this journey is trying to determine which doctor do you trust the most. The endocrinologist who prescribed Farxiga or the kidney NP who prescribed Torsemide ended with cautionary kidney results. Do you take 5000 years of Eastern medical history of kidney disease and compare that with our Western medical knowledge? I chose to remain stable with the acupuncturist. Eastern and Western medicine has its differences but if you "Google" acupuncture and kidney disease, you will have found that "some" have benefited. All docs tell me that CKD cannot be reversed, so if true, all I want from this disease is stability

Thank you for your support. With medication, each of us can have various reactions to drugs. For example, I get unstoppable nose bleeds when I take aspirin, and requires a trip to the ER. When you look at adverse reactions to drugs by pharma, my endocrinologist points to the science of Farxiga and swears of its use. I had a nephrologist one time who said to not use Farxiga. You have to make the call as it depends on you. My eGFR trend dictated that I stop Farxiga and I did, and have since recovered from a near Stage 4 experience.

Thank you for your comments. I have never been prescribed (as yet) taking a pill for my aCKD3. I don't know what caused such a drop and I am very concerned about it. I see my doctor this Thursday and I am looking forward to talking to him about my concerns. Is Farxiga used to help with the progress of CKD? In your case that was not what you needed and I'm very sorry for what you had to go through. As I have said, I have not had the need for a pill to help with my CKD so Thursday I will hopefully get some answers. I have been told that there can be many reasons for a drop. I did have pneumonia when I had my blood work and that might have had something to for with the drop. In any event, I will post when I get some info. Again, thanks so much for your concern. : )

Many nephrologists like Farxiga because of the science, as they say. With Farxiga, there is a dose for endocrinolologists, and a higher dosage for those with CKD. I took the smaller dosage and had problems. Some say that Farxiga helps stabilize you so that you don't evolve into later stages. For me, it did not work; for others, perhaps so. Pills may not be the best solution, but a proper diet with a dietitian and exercise go a long ways. With CKD, the eGFR trend is what matters most, and some have their lab work done monthly or every other month if your insurance provides for this.
