Anyone tried Dry Needling or Acupuncture for Pain or Neuropathy?

Posted by judypall @judypall, Mar 22, 2019

Has anyone had any luck with either dry needling or acupuncture? I have tried each of them one time. But made my feet tingle more. The PT who was administering the dry needling said that it goes through a cycle of pain to get better. I wasn’t too sure on that. Anyone?

Thanks for you comments. As for a topical ointment, I have had good luck during the night applying a cream called, "PhysAssist". It has oils of lavender and peppermint.

Ooh lavender and peppermint sounds like it would smell really good together!

I have a wonderful PT who I see every 1-2 weeks. She does dry needling in the area that I request. Sometimes it’s my glutes, sometimes the tight area from hip to knee, and occasionally across my shoulders. The relief is immediate. It’s followed by strengthening exercises, then heat. Over the past year the improvement has been ver noticeable. This is the most useful therapy I have had.

I felt acupuncture was helpful. It’s hard to describe the release of tension and the relaxation I felt almost immediately. With that came reduction of some discomfort. This acupuncture wasn’t being promoted as a life long or long-term therapy, just 5 sessions. However, I can see me going back a couple of times per year perhaps for that positive relaxing effect.

I tried acupuncture but it didn’t help. Still have pain and tingling from my knees to the soles of my feet Gabapentin hasn’t really helped.

I had needles in my feet occasionally. I went through 20 sessions of Sanexas and 20 sessions of dry needling right after each Sanexas. I no longer have the foot itch/sting.

A Neurologist mentioned that I may have signs of PN and nerve impingement from degenerative disc disease. There is no way of knowing for sure, but I asked for the Sanexas pads to be placed on my back, instead of my feet. That foot thing can be from L3-4.

Good Health and Happy Home!

After spending a lot of time and money on different treatments including laser therapy, Acupuncture has been the only modality helping me with my intense feet pain. I couldn't even walk before Acupuncture. My 24/7 numbness and tingling continue as always. I still having pain, but the debilitating pain is under control. The first month I received treatment weekly then every 2 weeks, now I'm having it monthly. If I have an exacerbation of pain, I call my acupuncturist. Is very important to verify the Acupuncture Physician credentials and previous patients reviews. Not all Acupuncturists have the same education and treatment approach.

Hi Chabela, Can you share with us what was causing the intense pain in your feet? Glad you got some relief with acupuncture.

Hi, @judypall - I would be curious, too, if trying dry needling or acupuncture for neuropathy made my feet tingle more. Hoping other members can weigh in on the concept of going through a cycle of pain to get better with these therapies. I'd like to invite members who have talked about these modalities for various types of pain on Connect to weigh in on your experiences and these therapies and how they have worked for them, like @scgraham @awag @2011panc @mrhappy @nancgdav.

@judypall, are you scheduled for more of these treatments coming up soon?
