I’m 8 days out from my hip replacement. I think I underestimated the violence of the surgery. My body is angry and with good reason!
Still on full dose of pain killers.
I expect full recovery to take a long time, but hope I can move around better soon.

Hello,
The first 2 weeks were really hard for me, but it started to really get better around the 3rd week. I actually had my hips done 26 days apart. Now I just got done with having both of my knees done. These surgeries are not easy by any means. There's a lot of things happening to your body. Let me just say I'm very glad I did it. Nobody ever tells us about the weird feeling in the thighs after a hip replacement, it really threw me off. But as time goes by the thigh will be back to normal, it took me 18 to 24 months to feel good . I hope for speedy recovery for you.

It took me almost 4 months before I could almost walk normally. Six weeks with a walker. Six weeks using a cane. Fourteen weeks after surgery I was able to walk from the train station to my doctors appointment at the hospital. It was three quarters of a mile. Granted I was hanging onto my husbands arm but that was a really big accomplishment for me. You don’t know what you don’t know. Had I known what the surgery entailed I might not have gone through with it BUT I am so much better after surgery than before. Before surgery I could hardly walk at all. I couldn’t walk up a slight incline without pain. Feeling much more normal now. It takes time and someday soon you will hopefully realize that you feel better than you did the day before.

No kidding about the violence! For one of my hip replacements I was able to get a good look at the operating theater and all of the tools they use - WOW. They looked like the power tools I have in my shop, but all surgical white. Someday I'll have the stomach to watch one of these operations on YouTube. My surgeon also called my wound "angry" - it's much happier now though that it's healed.

Yes - full recovery takes a while, and from my experience it's not a straight line. Some days are much better than others.
