Diagnosed with Uterine Cancer (Leiomyosarcoma)
I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer (Leiomyosarcoma) this month. Two months ago large mass was found in my uterus. Prior to that, there were no signs or symptoms of large mass. I received my Covid vaccine on 12/9/21 on the first day of my cycle. My period went from being very heavy to light spotting that month. This never happens. Ten days later I went into the ER due to severe pelvic and abdominal pain. A CT scan confine a large tumor (tennis ball) growing in my uterus. I have no history of fibroids and a recent Ultrasound confirms that. Less than a month later I developed Covid(delta/omicron unknown) and my recovery time over three weeks. During that time my uterus/tumor doubled in size, as if I was in my last trimester of pregnancy. A full hysterectomy was performed and biopsy confirms uterine cancer (lmsarcoma). I believe the Covid vaccine and infection triggered the cancerous tumor to grow rapidly in a short period of time causing the pain and discomfort to manifest. Curious if anyone else has experience with the impact of Covid and cancer.

Anyone here diagnosed with LMS? I don’t think there’s even a specialist in arizona that is working on it. I am stage one. Having to do radiation treatments soon. Already had 3 surgeries in 5 months.
I have LMS. I’m stage I had one surgery in 2020. Abrasion on the liver, chemo in 2021, now I 2023 it came back again in my lungs. Doing radiation and a chemo pill…
Thank you for sharing. I have the option of chemo or radiation to start. Are you able to work?
I’m retired and don’t work outside the home… doing radiation right now. I had chemo and will be taking chemo pills after radiation but I haven’t been sick or nauseous. Hope all is going well with you.
Thanks for your reply. I’ll be starting a 9-12 week chemo to shrink the remaining tumor that is to close to the right ureter and bowel. Then perhaps radiation after. I’m worried about side effects causing work loss. I hope the best for you in your treatments. Stay strong!
You should be able to work. I feel good except for I have this LMS. It’s been three years. You got this, you will do good! Stay strong mind and body!
Yes I had leiomyosarcoma ...there was a very small bump above my knee. looked it up on internet and because I met all the criteria (female over 50) I knew immediately what it was.
Went to Dr. and he suggested that I have radiation before I have it surgically removed. He said it is best to do it that way as you want to kill off the small fingerlings surrounding the tumor before you remove it.
I had it removed in 2018. Since then I have had follow up scans and no return of the cancer.
He was the best doctor and so grateful God led me to him.
He has now retired.
Thank you for your response. I hope I’m as lucky as you. My dr. Doesn’t specialize in LMS so he’s given me the choice of radiation or chemo first. I didn’t catch the symptoms as fast. But we’re moving fast now on the attack plan. Thank you for your support. I wish you well!
Dr. Monson told me chemo does not treat a sarcoma cancer. My mother also had a sarcoma many years ago and all they could do at the time was remove it.. I was a child but I don't think she had radiation.
I would get radiation before they remove it if you have that option.
Is Dr. Monsoon the retired Dr?
