I was off Hydrea for 3 months, stomach upset from painkillers for bruised muscle, during that time my hair begun to grow back + best of all my blood levels were within the normal range, so Dr said I didn't need a prescription for Hydrea. I was so relieved, was called back to clinic for the usual run of bloods a month ago, my platelets were quite elevitated so prescribed hydrea 3 per week again. Now after 4 weeks taking them, hair is beginning to fall out again. My next appointment is this coming Tuesday so I'll have to check if
alternative non chemo tabs can be prescribed???🙄😬

Yes, as soon as I stopped them my platelets shot up over 600 so back on I went. They are working great keeping my numbers down but will my hair stop falling out? I will have to take them for life so I guess I have to take it day by day. There’s only one other medication for PV and it’s pretty new. It’s extremely expensive and has different side effects. This one has been around for decades and my doctor really prefers patients stay on it if they can tolerate it. Keep us posted. Good luck!
