What happened to the lady who was having significant bleeding problems 8 days after colpocleisis surgery?

I’m supposed to have this surgery in June and I am very apprehensive about it and also the recovery afterwards. How can you have a prolapse come back if you’re sewn together? Also, any ideas on after surgery as far as foods to eat that will make my bowels move extremely well would be very helpful to me. Thank you.

You're not really sewn together. The vagina is made narrower and shorter, so it can no longer accommodate a penis. I chose to have the uterus, Fallopian tubes, and ovaries removed vaginally during the same surgery, but this is not required.

I have had three prolapse surgeries, uterine prolapse surgery in 2011…vaginal prolapse surgery in 2017 and rectocele repair 5 weeks ago. Recovery was going well until I developed a UTI over two weeks ago. Per my urogynocologist…vaginal bacteria has gone into my bladder. I took Cephlex until she got lab results, then was put on Flagyl…now am taking Leviflaxin, my third antibiotic. I have the constant urge to pee, it is maddening, especially at night. The doctor gave me a 14 day supply of Gemtessa (Vibegron) to help with symptoms and I have made an appt to see a urologist in two weeks. Does anyone else struggle with constant UTIs? I go online and read about these things, and it causes more anxiety, not good with feelings of urgency to pee. I may not be on the right thread…oh…and when I looked for a possible appt with Phoenix Mayo I saw they only treat issues like this for females from ages 12-65…unless I misunderstood.

I have last stage prolapse. I have tried 3 different pessaries which my body pushes out within a 4 - 6 hour period. I have elected to have colpocleisis surgery, leaving the uterus in. However, my bladder and bowels have been incontinent as the prolapse has worsened. As expressed by others any walking, hiking stimulates the bowel/bladder then I have no strength or control to stop them. The bladder can be somewhat more temperamental unable to void to no control. Another concern is will the very distended abdomen, sense of fullness after even one tea or coffee be resolved after this procedure? Not sure this is the right question or really where to begin. Any suggestions, help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Also, I neglected to mention I have been having non stop bladder infections associated with the prolapse and am now on a daily low dose antibiotic to prevent the infections. I am so concerned with all the antibiotics taken in the last year especially going into the hospital for the surgery.

Hi, I had the partial colpocleisis May 4, 2023 so only 2 months post-op. I am 71 y/o and single. My uterus was also left inside; it was said to be small-ish and no fibroids, so it remains in. I had minimal post-op pain but am still having a "twitchy" bladder, meaning my urges and difficulty to control have been an ongoing issue. My pee-stream was weak at first and emptying my bladder completely seemed difficult, but over the ensuing 4 weeks, it improved somewhat. Probably inflammation and surgical trauma that needed to resolve naturally. I am now having Pelvic Floor PT where I'm taught to exercise certain muscles to strengthen the pelvic floor. The therapist also does internal massage and stretching to address any scar tissue that may be affecting my stream and sense of control. As for UTIs, I was recommended to take D-Mannose 500mg twice daily along with Vit C 500 mg 2x a day. The D-Mannose makes the bladder lining less hospitable to bacteria and Vit C acidifies the urine, also discouraging bacterial growth. Those have helped a lot! You can get D-Mannose on Amazon. I had a hard time finding it on store shelves. I feel fairly satisfied with my surgery and believe the "twitchy" bladder issues will fade with time, or else I can try to live with it. Living with prolapsed organs was awful and my quality of life has improved (and the abdominal heaviness is gone). Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Thank you for your post, I am considering having Colpocleisis surgery because the pessaries are not helping anymore. The vagina still bulges. I also have to wear pads 24/7 because I leak.
