Hi @ro_batista, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I think @sandyjr may have some experience with cold caps. While we wait for others to chime in, you might be interested in this blog post:

Ro, may I ask when you will start chemotherapy? What regimen will you receive?

I looked one in the hospital the day b4 my chemo started and just reminded me of a medieval torture instrument. I couldn’t even bare to hold it never mind wear it. For me, and I’m only talking for me, the extra time you have to wear it b4 and after chemo, was too much. It was heartbreaking when
My husband shaved my head but the next day I woke up feeling so relieved that Haifa was gone. Sounds daft but that’s how I felt. I took a video of him shaving my head and it was just dreadful watching it back. My hair had become a bit thin, agr related but after it grew back I had thicker hair than I had in years! I don’t recommend chemo to get thick
Hair tho🤣. By the way my hair was dreadful halfway to my second chemo so chemo hit me hard. Everyone is different. I bought some lovely hats in Amazon but the only reason I wore them at w beginning was my head/scalp, and covid then too, was susceptible to
Infection. After couple months I went out with my shinny head and was proud to b looked at!! Walk tall! Best of Irish ☘️ luck to you and loads 🤗 hygs and kisses 😘 the foto is my husband and myself 2/11/21. We were getting ready to go out. My family foew over from Dublin to see us. The second foto was taken
In Spain just before Xmas 2022. There’s always light at the end of that awful tunnel ❤️

It seemed to work at first but now 5 weeks after my last round of chemo I’m still losing hair. I lost about 4/5 of my hair. It’s kind of awkward having some hair but not enough loss to shave it all off and not enough hair to look as usual. The first 15 minutes was the hardest to bear. After that it’s ok. You do have to start 30 minutes prior to infusion and continue for another 2 hours after the last infusion.

I cold capped for all 8 rounds with paxman. I had ACT. I lost maybe 2/3 of my hair I guess?? I had a huge bald spot on top but could comb it over. I also started with a lot of hair. I finished chemo just over a year ago and I have a lot of curly hair now. I’d recommend it, but know that it doesn’t necessarily prevent hair loss. It keeps your follicles so that your hair grows faster afterwards. It also works better with some chemo regimes than others. ACT is one of the strongest so I knew I would lose hair. My friend did it with TCHP and lost very little hair. I’d definitely try it.

I washed my hair only on chemo nights and didn’t use too many hair products. Dry shampoo is allowed, and you can’t pull your hair back too tight. No tension on the roots. Paxman has a really good Facebook page too. Good luck

I did it for 12 rounds of taxol and had very good results. I lost about 20 percent of my hair. I recommend doing it. It didn't hurt me at all. Slightly uncomfortable for first ten minutes but that was it.

Sure. For me, it wasn't terrible. Yes, it was cold but not painful. I never got a headache or had extreme discomfort. I would just get out my book or my tablet to watch a show and forget about it. And then, for sure, after 10-15 minutes, your scalp is numb so there's no feeling at all.

I will say you have to follow the directions. I only washed my hair once a week, I only used wide-tooth combs, and I was very careful with my hair. I did everything that was suggested to me and had good results. Here I am about six weeks after chemo was done. I felt good enough to go to an outdoor festival. My hair is a little thinner due to the loss, but no one would ever know. Now, the hair has grown back in, and I actually think I have thicker hair than before.

Not awful. Uncomfortable but bearable.
