When I was in college, I used to have a wind up BigBen and I would place it on an overturned plastic tray so it reverberated more.
Think also about, eventually, signing up for a CapTel phone if it is available in your area. You need a landline to hook up to it.

exactly what I am looking for....an older clock, but these are hard to come by now, and expensive if you can find them!
