C. difficile And diverticulosis

I’m sorry you are going through that! I’m 70, had diverticulitis episodes for around 20 years. Some more serious than others, no perforations but always put on antibiotics. Two years ago, I ended up in hospital on and off for 5 months. I had diverticulitis and suffered three bouts of cdiff. Pain, weakness, depression, constant bathroom visits, weight loss of 40 pounds, isolation, fear!!! In Feb a year ago I had colon resection to remove the diseased section. It hasn’t been all sunshine and roses since but it was the best thing to do. I live in fear of having to go on antibiotics again for anything. I believe I have PTSD because of cdiff. Every time I have a bit of diarrhea my anxiety arises thinking oh no what if…. Hopefully yours resolved quickly. You’re very young to have diverticulitis.

What all happen with c diff for you. Everyone keeps telling me I’m so young which is scary too and why did you say the surgery wasn’t the best but gave a better outcome. I’m so scared and I’m crying everyday. I don’t know how to feel what to think should I go back to the hospital stay home. I don’t know any more

Ive had Cdiff over 10 times , verfied with the Stool test each time. 16 Days in Hospital in 11-24-20 until 12-10-20. Could not hold anything down. As soon as I ate a bite, or even drank water, straight on through. Even pills sailed on through , whole, undigested. I was on a liquid Diet (chicken broth, jello, etc). Lost a lot of weight, as you might imagine. I was given Liquid Vancomycin several days. Got stable enough I could digest pills. Finally put on a wonderful Cdiff medicine , Dificid. I was much better within 4-5 days and released from Hospital. It has been an uphill/downhill battle. For instance, I had recent bronchitis. put on Pill form Vancomycin at same time as Zpak. The Vanco was to act as a Prophylaxis to keep me from getting Cdiff again. You have to be very cautious with taking ABX.
You need to have a Stool sample test first to screen for CDIFF. Do you have a fever? Uncontrollable Diarhea? Very foul smelling BM? Have you recently taken an Antibiotic?
If the answer is no to all of these i would doubt CDIFF. But contact your Dr for a stool sample test is where i'd start. My very best to you!

I too was finally put on Dificid. Wonder drug but so $$$$$$.

Yes, it is a wonderful Medicine. And Absolutely very costly! I truly believe though, the Dificid, along with my Infectious Disease Dr, and the Good Lord, saved my life!!

Hi C.diff 2018 Recovered at home First batch vancomycin didnt work so then I thin 110 pills spaces over 3 months ; made myself isolated so didnt spread it to others by end of year had mental physical breakdown, only just coming out of it 2023. Sam year lots 4 friends and I don't have many; also diagnosed with narrow angle glaucoma. Since C.Diff have fecal incontinence had ibs-d from pelvic radiation 2085! As I read comments I feel for you , c.diff is bad enouugh but with no guidance/help... the pharmacy 2nd batch pills couldnt get Dificid - had I known the wait was only 8 days I would have waited and, amazingly, my medical plan covered the $2,000.00 Cdn, dollars.I now get frquent UTI's and am on one now but while on cannot take antidiarrhea meds so its running to the bathroom and as above, totally scared of getting c.diff again. Looking back I wish had Dificid and also not isolated myself as Dr said "just wash hands"! J.

I have done a stool test twice that they said they can’t test because. It’s too formed and I have been on antibiotics since March no relief and I only have loose stools in the am and no other time throw the day and the smell of the poop is weird. And no fever. Something is wrong with me tho. I have lost so much weight. I wonder if it was the flaygl that has messed me up.

Flagyl, as I understand it, is the first-line abx against C-DIFF. The last Positive CDIFF TEST i had i didnt have a fever, the smell of the poop very foul( I mean a different smell that is hared to mistake). And if you have been on Abx since March-quite a long time.
My Family Dr said to me a few weeks ago-Maybe this iS your NEW normal with all you have been through with all the Cdiff youve had, the Abx youve had to take (Flagyl, Vancomycin, Dificid, etc). I adore him, but this is nobody's normal! But I agree with him, and with you, I would not be suprised if all the Abx over time have messed our systems up to the point oue systems may never be "Normal" again.

Flagyl is a good drug but also a horrific drug I can’t take it as it makes me very ill. There are alternatives, be proactive. Don’t just follow dr orders, ask questions, do research, suggest options.

Difucid takes care of the cdiff. Taking all the other drugs before they give you the expensive drug is what causes all the problems in our bodies. If at all possible advocate for the superior treatment.
