I have neuropathy in my hands and feet, my GP has me on 300mg of gabapentin three times a day. The neuropathy is because of nerve damage in my neck. My right hand and right foot are affected way more than my left. Lately I have noticed sharp pains in my legs as if a bug were biting me, when I look nothing is there!
I have many medical problems and like those the neuropathy is really aggravating.
Welcome @lindaloubresett, You are definitely right, neuropathy can be aggravating to say the least. I know it's not much comfort but you are not alone. It sounds like gabapentin is controlling most of your pain with the exception of the sharp pains in your legs that you mentioned. Has your doctor offered any treatment suggestions for the new symptoms?

3 ReactionsThis is a reply to Barrye and Tomkipp and all nondiabetic neuropathy suffers. Recently (5 days ago) I was put on Naltrexone 3mg. This drug has shown promising results with very few side effects. The drug is being used off-label for pain and inflammation. In large doses, it is used for alcoholics. I DO NOT DRINK AT ALL. Your doctor of Internal medicine writes the prescription. You can only get it at a Compounding Pharmacy. I have that kind of pharmacy near me here in the Lehigh Valley Pennsyvaliana. The name of the pharmacy is Dorneyville Compounding Pharmacy. The pharmacist is Rich. He is very knowledgeable. Do your research and do not spend thousands of dollars on all the rip-off cures and chiropractors, foot doctors, expensive machines, etc. We all know there is no cure we simply want relief that works. So for now I am taking this drug. I am also waiting for my appointment to get recertified for medical marijuana. This is a long process here in PA. You have to get a patient clearance from a physiatrist. That is sent to the state of PA then you pay $50.00 dollars for the card that is good for one year. You then go to a PA Dispensary. Only talk to a pharmacist not a salesperson at our dispensary you are given a 30-minute appointment with a pharmacist.
The process is long to get the correct strain of marijuana and the cost can be very high. Though prices have come down a bit here in PA. I have tried this for another condition years ago and it did not work. I do not know yet if I can take marijuana with the new drug I am on Naltrexone. I certainly want to give this a chance.
The Best to everyone !
Vicki

2 ReactionsSorry for typing errors. I should know better Pennsylvania is my state and of course, I spelled it wrong!!!! There are two lines at the end of my post after my signature that should not be there. Looks like a repeat sentence.
Love to Everyone.

1 ReactionGood question, Pat!
My question is: my neuropathy is traveling to my shoulder and calves. 6 months ago it was only in my feet.
My Neurologist suggests I have a pinched nerve!
He has not asked me to come in to check it out.
The only test I have had for my P.N. was an EMG.
Am I getting proper treatment??
TIA., Pat!
That's a difficult question for any of us non medical folks Pat. You mentioned in a previous post that you have been doing a lot of PT and exercises for building your strength and helping balance and walking. What kind of symptoms are you getting in your shoulders and calves? Is it possible that it's related to muscle soreness from all of the PT and exercise?
Progression can occur in neuropathy and a pinched or compressed nerve can definitely can cause symptoms to travel around the body depending on the nerve that's being compressed and other factors way above my level of knowledge. Does your neurologist think that your PN is related or caused by a pinched nerve?

1 ReactionI also have extreme fatigue in my quads. I can’t walk very far without rest. I even have to sit down between washing dishes. My jobs have always been physical. I can barely make it to the end of my driveway some days.

1 ReactionI also have pain in my shoulders. I do have an old injury, but I feel the pain is due to my muscle loss from the neuropathy.
Has anybody with SFN and LFN undergone IVIG treatment with any success ?
