I have been getting the same thing for years and I finally found an ENT who correctly diagnosed me. It’s coming from your adenoids. He looked in my sinuses with a scope and showed me a picture of it. Adenoiditis is what it’s called and that dried up mucus thing is dried up pus because your adenoids are infected. He put me on antibiotics and a short term steroid. Hope this helps.

Hello @teemarable and @selfhelper . Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Thank you for sharing your experience-

@selfhelper, have you seen your ENT since your last post?

I've had something similar.
For the past 6 days I've had either a v.heavy cold or the flu. Incredible amounts of green and bloody mucuous from my nose. Got through 3 rolls of toilet paper. My nostrils have been caked in dried snot/blood. On th e 5th night, I woke up choking on a crusty and bloodied flake of snot. Similar thing happened twice the next day and couldn't work out if it was from nose or throat but the Adenoids make sense. Mucous from chest was like a knot of wet cheese. Has now thinned out and moved to to the chest and become a cough.

I was excited to see someone use the word "diagnosis" since with all these people one seems to be lacking. However, I had my adenoids removed as a child. :/

Were you able to get this resolved? This is what my doctor diagnosed me with, but the antibiotics didn’t work.
