Do you know about the NTM Talk Podcast series?

Posted by becleartoday @becleartoday, Jun 4, 2023

Happy Sunday Everyone,
Years ago, a pulmonologist, Dr Colin Swenson and an Infectious Disease specialist, Dr Wendi Drummond, put together a series of podcasts on NTM (MAC) lung disease. There are over 20 podcasts and many of them are also relevant for those of us who currently have BE without a MAC infection.

Drs. Swenson and Drummond are very simpatico together and the podcasts are easy to understand. What I especially like about them is the podcast format. It enables us to listen as we take a walk or go about our day.

Have a listen and let me know if you have a favorite talk!!

Warm regards,
Linda Esposito

Thank you. Me too on the gut issue, big time. Wonder if the Cefta helped for long? Or at all?

irena8 - It appears that any treatment I've received in the past has only suppressed my pseudomonas--just put it into hiding. Earlier this year I asked my doc if it is colonized and he said yes.

yes understood. I have Mucoid strain Pseudomonas. Just wondered how long it put it into hiding and if it helped on the whole or not so much. I have never done IV. Think about doing it but gut is so bad even Tobramycin affected gut and kidney. Had to stop.

I was recently diagnosed with pseudomonas. Probably had it for several years, but was not able to produce sputum until 6 months ago. I had a one month course of Tobramycin with two weeks of Cipro. Had a remarkable reaction. Was two months free of any symptoms, felt better than I have had for years, and able to walk 6 miles a day. Then symptoms returned. Now am repeating treatment and feeling better. I have had no side effects from Tobramycin, except from hoarseness the first time. I know pseudomonas is difficult or impossible to eradicate . How is colonization and Mucoid strain diagnosed? Has anyone been on continuous Tobramycin?

Mucoid is seen in the sputum samples. Toby is often used ongoing for those with Pseudomonas. Usually two weeks on, two weeks off or one month on, one month off. It is important to take the break and not use it continuously. I tried it but had to stop after only 5 treatments!
