Can 150 mcg Iodine induce lasting (2 weeks+) hyperthyroidism?

Posted by mollyhunt63 @mollyhunt63, Jun 7, 2023

I was on this amount of iodine, and tested very hyperthyroid. I have been off it for two weeks now, and levels haven't lowered. My values were previously in normal range. My doctor wants me to just wait, but the tachycardia and weight loss are unacceptable to me. I cannot get in to see an endocrinologist for months.

Well, I feel badly for you! I have a relative who had undiagnosed hyperthyroid for quite some time. Just anecdotally, one thing that may slow iodine uptake is raw cruciferous vegetables. That means vegetables in the cabbage family: kale, turnips, rutabaga, radishes, collard greens, bok choy, yu choy, broccoli, cauliflower, nappa cabbage, horseradish, watercress, mustard greens, etc.
Of course, these are all also low calorie and filling, so not exactly helpful given the problem of weight loss . . .
You should definitely see a physician asap, though!
