Totally agree with this group. No way would I jeopardize going on a cruise. Yes, besides Covid which is still around and as I was told will be around for years, Personally I will pass. Wearing. our mask will help yet not 100%. People often just don't understand the apprehension post transplant patients may always have in their lives.
Land travel is another whole ballgame. There is more accessibility for medical care. I don't believe cruise ships are going to divert a trip to bring you to shore to be hospitalized if a person becomes ill for any reason unless they have smaller boats to take a sick person to shore.. Ship captins may be able to arrange transport for you via a smaller vessel so a sick person can be medically treated. Even there is a ship doctor on board they are what family physician? Internist? An air vac helicopter would cost thousands. Who has that kind of money? After having a transplant especially kidney, is it just worth the worry? Would you be able to reach a nephrologist or a decent size hospital who treats kidney transplant patients? . I understand it's tough on the person who has the transplant. Many of us do miss cruising , people who do not understand our fear don['t walk our walk. Trips will be safer if we take as much precaution and do our homework. I am at peace just knowing that there are kidney specialist in major cities can be a great relief. Remember also. we have medicare and our own pet insurance which most country do not accept. IF treated in other countries they take your amex card or accept a wire transfer for any medical situation or hospitalization you receive. There is travel insurance yet it is limited as well. Ask your insurance company and or social worker if they can assist you with a travel plans to keep you safe. ect ect. You are not alone. .. . Yes, thank goodness for face time and the internet..where drs can share your medical history so a patient can be treated accordingly. Most importantly always having medical id( I believe there are some where your. medical history can be downloaded on to your cell phone or iPad lap and even medical id bracelets. and or tap tops so doctors in another country can review your kidney status health, medication and past/present medical conditions you have, besides being a transplant patient. . Just investigate before you travel. Best of luck. PS. Air transport from Las Vegas to NYC is about $15,000 for a medical vac. Heaven knows what transport cost are from Europe? They take amex too and I don't believe it is covered by insurance.

Yes on the iphone ... Medical history & Medications taken on a daily basis can be listed and are all tied into the Emergency Tab.... I am using this feature & would recommend all KTR do that, this way confusion can be streamlined in case. of an event not near to the Transplant Dr.
Air Medvac. is my view is more expensive domestically speaking too: I guess it varies from Medvac. provider to provider.. in some cases (Tx to Ca) can be over 40K
