Recent changes to Mayo Clinic patient portal

Posted by fre6821 @fre6821, May 8, 2023

I cannot see my upcoming appointments. I hate this new change. It is not user friendly to older patients. I want an option to return to the old one. At least I could figure it out. It’s like Mayo doesn’t want you to see your own info.

Yes, I worked at Mayo for 35 years. My last 15 years or so I was an Application Developer in IT so I am intimately familiar with the driving forces involved. My main takeaway on the portal as a patient is that it is great and I use it frequently.

Sometimes changes are made just to be making changes. People will always say the changes make it better and you are supposed to believe them.
However if you put in the time to get used to the changes you can probably get back to the same comfort level that you had before, but not always.
One thing I don't think I like about the new version is the After Visit Summaries and Clinical Notes. I used to be able to tell which ones I had already looked at and which ones I hadn't. The unread ones were Bolded and the read ones were not. This was useful to me but now I don't see that. Yes I will get used to it but No this is not an improvement.
I hope I am wrong and it just happens that I have already looked at all my Summaries and Notes so I can't see any differences because there aren't any.

@nonobaddog I hav reported this same issue of not knowing which notes, etc I have not read. It needs to be marked unread in some way, whether bolded or some kind of indicator on that post. I was recently inpatient at St Mary’s for surgery and back in with complications. There are so many reports/notes to go through to try and find one that is unread.
Another thing that may be slowing it down is the inclusion of articles in with our individual records on home page. (I use the iPhone app)
I will try to make more suggestions as I have time.

Good, I am glad you reported that.
Makes me wonder - why in the world would anybody think that differentiating between read and unread was a bad thing and needed to go away?

I agree. It's very frustrating not to be able to see my care team - the list of staff with their photos was very helpful if I wanted to make an appointment or send a message. Now it takes many more steps to make an appointment, and I can't even find the doctor or staff member.

The new system is prompting me that my care team wants me to make appointments. If I click on the arrow, it just brings me to the page with my entire care team, and does not specify who of them wants me to make an appointment for what!
It is very frustrating to be told to do something but not told what this something is, or is about!

@lindes, that is super frustrating.

For help with completing this task as your care team requested, call or submit an online request:
- On the Website: Via “Get Help” (https://onlineservices.mayoclinic.org/patientportal/content/get-help)
- On the Mobile App: Accounts > Support > Get Help

If you look at the very top almost in the middle there is a bell. If I get a new message or two there is a number on the right side of the bell. You touch the bell whenever you want. New test results or any new message will be there.

I do exactly this, and it says that my team would want me to contact them for setting up an appointment. When I follow the link/prompt, it brings me to no specific team member, and has no specific information for me.

@lindes, were you able to get help by clicking "Get Help" on the portal? See my previous message.
