Anyone else get bloating and abdominal pain from NETS or Lanreotide?

Posted by stevestenberg31 @stevestenberg31, Apr 20, 2023

I have primary NET in the small intestine, spread to stomach wall and liver. I just got my 3rd monthly Somatuline (Lanreotide) injection 4/12. About a week to 10days after i get extreme gut pains and bloating. I have had to vomit on 3 occasions now. Is from the NETs or the treatment? Does anyone else experience this? Do certain foods cause this reaction?

I had 3 Lanreotide injections, due for CT scan in June.
I noticed my hair falling out and every 2-3 days have trouble falling asleep.. Just bought Melatonin and will try it tonight. Also Vit.B12.
Anyone else has similar issues?

I’ve had 5 lanreotide shots and side effects less each time. Bloating is certainly one of them. Walking helps. Haven’t had as much puking. Receive 3rd of 4 scheduled TACE treatment’s on 5/31. They’ve kicked my butt. Last one was 5/8. Primary symptom currently is a deep persistent fry cough which doesn’t hurt and doesn’t respond well to traditional OTC cold medicine. They may inject Botox as oncologist said increase in liver size due to treatments may be rubbing against diaphragm. Any thoughts on what I can take to rid cough are welcome. Continued success on your journey!

I've had 5 lanreotide injections and symptoms have gotten better with each shot. Usually just flatulence and possibly diarrhea for a few days. Had significant bloating after the 2nd shot but have related that to first TACE treatment. Stay well - Tom

I appreciate all of your updates as you go through various treatments. Regarding the cough, is it an all day cough or just when you are lying down?

I'm thinking that you might want to start a new discussion group about the cough. There may be others who have experienced that and may be able to offer suggestions.

If you decide to start a new discussion group, the title "How to Deal with Coughing due to Liver Mets" might be a good title to attract some attention to the topic.

Yes the bloating in my case was from lanreotide and Ocreotide
My stomach is perfectly flat now that I stopped the injections
The side effects from both injections were to much for me to handle
The bloating was the least of the issues
Good luck to you

@sophiarose - are you on different treatment now that you stopped Lanreotide? And what?

I went on to Ocreotide
The first 3 injections I had side effects that weren’t so bad
The 4 th injection put me in the hospital because my hip swelled from an infection at the injection site
After that the side effects got worst with every injection
Until my 9th injection landed me back in the hospital I thought I was having a stroke my liver enzymes were extremely elevated and my MRI showed a fatty liver which I never had before which is a different effect from the Ocreotide
I stopped my tumors were still growing and more were arising
I am scheduled to get a left side liver embolization on 6/13 I had my right side done on 1/12 and it was successful
Fingers crossed
Time will tell what will be now that I am not on anything

I have a neuroendocrine pancreatic tumor. I have had two treatments with Lanreotide. I have so much gas & bloating now. It is painful & embarrassing. It lessens some before each treatment, but is always there. Did you have that reaction?
