That's a cute story! It sounds like you've been very open with the kids to prepare them and help them deal with it all in a strong and healthy manner. I'm glad you are able to keep your sense of humor going about it all. I know humor always helps me cope with everything.

My brothers and I have all dealt with cancer and continually made jokes about it all (my mother wasn't amused). My first brother to be diagnosed with cancer was the real Seinfeld of the family so I knew he'd want me to keep it light. I sent him an e-mail saying, "...I'll do whatever I can to help you. I do have an extra kidney that is yours if you ever need it. Full disclosure, it comes with a kidney stone already in it." He wrote back and said, "I want the good one!" My other brother was copied and told me the exchange made him burst out laughing. That was 20 years ago and it still makes me laugh to this day. 🙂
