Neurogenic bladder and foley catheter
I am a female bodied individual and I've had a neurogenic bladder for several years. I started having troubles intermittent catheterization. The doctor put in a foley indwelling catheter until the issues can be resolved.
I am a long distance runner and cyclist and I'm unsure if I'll be able to ride with a catheter comfortably. Any suggestions?

My husband has a neurogenic bladder and had a foley for almost 3 years. In 2015 he had the surgery to have a Supra pubic tube put directly into the bladder. He uses smaller bags to empty his urine during the day and it enabled him to be active. He even was climbing trees as an Arborist. There are larger foley bags for night. The thing is, after all these years, his bladder shrunk. Now facing a kidney transplant, they want him to have a bladder augmentation, which is to take some of his small intestine to make his bladder bigger. This is the reason I am on here to see if anyone has a similar experience. One thought is to use clamps to stop the bladder for emptying freely and hopefully maintaining the size of the bladder. I wish this was pointed out to us, although it may be uncomfortable for him to have had that pressure. There are also urostomy's that are placed in the bladder which would also need to be straight cath'ed and emptied that maybe you would like to research. Just a couple of ideas. Best of luck to you!

It's been a few days since you've had the catheter installed. Have the issues resolved? Are you able to continue your physical activities to your usual frequency and intensity with the indwelling cath?

1 ReactionSuprapubic catheter placed 5 weeks ago due to enlarged bladder/urinary retention causing bilateral hydronephrosis. Also had TURP done a year ago. Hoping to have a new catheter placed so I can eliminate bag at least during day and empty my bladder every 2-3 hours. Also diagnosed with stage 3 CKD. I am told the catheter will be with me for life but will save my kidneys. Recent labs show kidney functions improving. Would love to get back to activities like traveling, hiking and pickleball which I use to play 3-4 times a week pre catheter.
Anyone else have similar conditions or suggestions?
