Want to hear positive things about anterior hip replacement
I am having a hip replacement in two mos. It will be done by the anterior method without cutting the muscles. I am interested in hearing only positive experiences. I’m hoping it will take away my knee pain which might be referred pain from hip. I’ve already had a kbeecreplacement

I will be the happiest person if after hip replacement, my knee pain is finally gone after a tkr and two years past
Well it took nearly 4 months for me to feel confident that the knee pain was in fact quite diminished. I had my 3+ month checkup with the surgeon a few weeks ago and I insisted that they take an x-ray of my knee because I was still in pain. Two weeks later I am nearly pain free in my knee. It takes time. Everyone is different and everyone heals differently.
U may want to adjust some expectations about that 😬. Hope u can make it.
I had a partial hip replacement in july of 2018, due to an accident. I was in Canada on vacation at a Roads Scholar program in Trois-Rivers,Canada. The Dr. chose a partial as she said I didn't have arthritis in the connection? At the time I was 82. Fast forward and I'm 87 with arthritis in that hip. I think she did a great job, but there were a lot of problems due to my being in a foreign country, and when I returned home (10) days later, some drs would not take my case. If I were able to chose, I would have an anterior operation. The people I know who have had them seem to walk better. Whatever you do, be sure to do a lot of P T!!!! As the saying goes, "just get back on the horse"

What does your surgeon say about the knee pain? Has he provided any explanation for the knee pain?
I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve had such a hard time. My neighbor was about your age when she had a total hip replacement. She is now 92. Goes swimming every day at the Y and she has all her marbles. I’ve always been afraid that I would get sick in a foreign country and not get the excellent m focal care that I am used to. Since I’ve never left the country except for an overnight stay in Canada 30 years ago. Some of the best surgeons are affiliated with medical schools and take on cases that others might shy away from. Just a thought.
I had the newer Superpath method, not direct anterior BUT I can tell you that I was also having pain about two inches below my knee cap. My hip surgeon, who also does knees, looked at the X-Ray and said it looked fine. My internist thought it was probably bursitis.
After my THR, not only is my hip pain free but the pain in the lower leg has gone away as well. So correcting the hip can also sometimes solve other problems as well.
Good luck.
Wow....you are doing GREAT!! I had total hip (right side) replacement on March 27th....went home on the 28th. Sorry I can't be like the one who said they had NO pain whatsoever....I did!! But...I was optimistic. I started physical therapy on the 3rd day after surgery....and stopped 2 weeks prior to the 6 wks. My surgeon said it was o.k. to 'transition' to home therapy...not great at the exercises, but am MOVING all the time, maybe too much. I STILL have swelling on the right side where I had the surgery....from the knee down, and redness. BUT....no pain in the hip area!! I had awful pain for approx. 5 yrs. (osteoarthritis)....just pushing my way through and forcing myself to get things done...housework, yard work, you name it. I wouldn't stop, but was so tired of all the pain. I almost LIVED at the Chiro's!! She said if I didn't keep coming, of course I would be in pain. The pain continued....didn't make sense! I finally told myself to get to an Orthopedist. That was IT....had the surgery and never looked back. LOL if they give you Oxycodone, well....that's good AND bad. Good for pain....BAD if you want to be a 'normal' person and go to the bathroom....UGH. I stopped at 2 weeks on that stuff...and am finally fine! You know, I feel stupid for going through absolute hell for so long, in terrible pain. BUT, we all wonder if we really need the SURGERY. I just got to the point of thinking, 'Why not? Can't be worse than what I'm going through NOW!' And now it's done...all I'm doing is looking ahead. I gave away a great treadmill because of too much pain....thinking of getting another....I feel too good NOT to. I felt great walking!! Just sorry I didn't have this done sooner!! 🙂
