All this hip pain after surgery is way too much, there must be a better way, it is 4 years for me and still not good.

1 ReactionI know that same pain. I went back to core who I have been following up w since 7/17 when I had a partial left hip. The new doc I saw had no clue but was working his way thru infection etc. The staff was HORRIBLE as I tried to convey what wasn't being done I received a call FM their patient advocate who proceeded to aggravate me insinuate etc so I left their care but left a note on my chart indicating how their system was failing and basically fired them said I would not return EVER and I got a certified dismissal letter instead of concern from anyone. No one had my results when I would go in but I still got a level 4 charge. My appts were always not scheduled in the right places for testing. It was frustrating. Onward right? I had already gotten my records xrays and have seen dr hedley. So far so good. Going in tomorrow to transition to a full hip and a new 'Head" to the top of the prosthesis ( head of femur). He said it was too big. I am praying this resolves the pain I have had since 2017. It looks like this will be easy compared to my first. Poss 1 night stay, new approach (superior) which decreases muscle damage. Everything about my post OP is different..things that make sense and I am excited but frightened as I now have a swallowing disorder poss from a stroke i may have had which caused me to injure myself and not addressed at the time. Will be going to mayo i hope for that. But i have been coined as high risk for aspiration. So everybody out there say a little prayer for me please? I will let you know how it goes. I pray this works so that you can try the doc I have now. Wonderful atmosphere both the office and the hospital. So far I am pleased with the direction this is going. Will check back later. (Fingers crossed) hopefully with no pain.😎

2 Reactions@binblessed - So glad to hear that you have a new doctor you are happy with and that things seem to be going in the right direction. Is your hip revision scheduled for tomorrow (6/11/19)? I'm sending you all good wishes for a quick and pain-free recovery.
Cheers 🥂 Dave! I too was diagnosed with meralgia paresthetica over 2 years ago! I had a total hip replacement almost 3 years ago. I dislocated it and three weeks later I had to have a total hip revision. I started getting sensitivity in front of my thigh starting about 3 inches from my waist down the thigh then midway to side of thigh to knee. Started about 4/5 months later after revision. It was so sensitive anything that touched my thigh was painful. I was using voltaren and aspercream to alleviate the pain. Long story short it’s been over 2 years and I’m still struggling with that pain. I am on gabapentin and I do use Tramadol when I’m going to be out of the house for long periods of time. I’ve had injections in that nerve, femoral cutaneous nerve. But no relief. I’ve also had a spinal cord stimulator implanted as my pain dr said it would help, but I’m not sure how much it has helped. They told me it will never go away. Most of my pain now is on side of thigh. Thinking the IT band has been affected. I have been short all my life on the leg I had hip replacement I think dr stretched everything in thigh. I was almost 2 inches short by the time I had replacement. Sorry I don’t have better news. Dr also said to numb that nerve that would last about 6 months but I have numbness already on side of thigh by buttock. And I didn’t want to risk the solution they use to numb it to get to any other part of my leg as it will leave the leg useless and will have to be in a wheelchair. It’s called ablation of the nerve. I have good days and bad days. Bad days I take the Tramadol. When I’m away from home I’ll take a Tramadol. I usually take half a pill. Rarely do I take a whole pill. Only as needed. Wishing you all the best. If you get or find relief please let me know!!!
I have had pain for almost 3 years after my surgery. I had hip replacement surgery then three weeks later I had to have a total hip revision due to a dislocation. Occasionally I get thigh pain but mostly I get pain in my buttock and nerve pain...diagnosed with meralgia paresthetica 2 years ago. It’s been a struggle and very stressful. I got hip replacement so I could be out of pain and now I’m still in pain. My orthopedic dr has basically told me there’s nothing more he can do!! Been seeing pain dr and still no relief. It really sucks sometimes as I get so depressed. I hope that each day I wake up it’s the day that I’ll be out of pain....sadly I’m not. I hope the figure out what is going on with you and you get relief

1 ReactionHip is done from a partial bipolar prosthesis to a full hip revision. The ball at the top of my prosthesis was too big and it was also a partial before. So far I have less pain then I have been experiencing in the last 2 years. I take 1/2 tab of my pain killer. Strangely when I sat down after my first surgery I felt like I was sitting on a ball. The ball at the top of the prosthesis was too big so dr hedley took it off replaced it and made it a full hip. I dont feel tha ball anymore when I sit and the pain afterwards is less than the the last 2 years. Please God let it be even better after this heals. I love the docs I met with the group the hospitalists the hospital was nice too. I am so thankful that I found Dr Hedley when I did. I was so bummed about not being able to be active. Let you know how it goes.. so far so good.

3 ReactionsThank you so much for this reply! I am feeling a little better but still having hip pain (around the new hip) and it goes down the inside or outside or front of my thigh...whichever it feels like that day. I completely understand what you mean about the "ball" you were sitting on. After my surgery I felt like I was sitting on a board. Like I had one in my back pocket. Kind of in a curved shape. This is very interesting and I am glad you found the help you need. I hope it works out very well for you!

2 ReactionsHi @binblessed - I am so glad to hear your good news. That was a nice message to wake up to! Glad your recovery is going well. I've had TKRs but not hip replacements. Do they prescribe physical therapy?
