Blood clots in urine 5 weeks after RP

Posted by byron12 @byron12, Apr 30, 2023

My husband (51 years old) had a Robotic Prostatectomy about 5 weeks ago. Pathology showed Pt3a, bladder neck invasion, perineural invasion, non-focal EPE, negative margins, no positive lymph nodes. Last week at 4 weeks post op he began having on and off blood and blood clots in his urine. Previously, he had not had any blood in urine since about 3 days after surgery. Dr advised to stop pelvic floor exercises for a week. Blood/blood clots continued sporadically. Largest clots have been dime sized. Anyone else experience anything similar after RP?

@byron12, as I mentioned to @jogger01 in another discussion, blood in urine is always worthy of investigation. @seabiscuit discovered that blood in his urine was due to a urinary tract infection:

Byron, does your husband still have a catheter in? Might he have an infection? Has the blood in urine gone away after stopping pelvic floor exercises?

I had encountered some random instances of blood in urine after surgery and ramping up excercise. reached out to my care team and they performed a cystoscopy. No issues found and subsequently I had no further blood. The procedure brought peace of mind. As Colleen recommends, investigating with care team is important. Blood in urine is not normal.

I feel blood in urine was normal, depending on the color
I had a chart, ketchup looking thick was not good, I did have some small clots come thru catheter
Usually more water would clear up
Color pretty quick

Mine didn’t stop until my general nurse practitioner did urine culture and treated with bacterial sensitive antibiotic.
