I was diagnosed with BV several years ago and it would not go away. First we tried switching to a different antibiotic but that did not work. Then I was put on a very low dose antibiotic for a very long time (I do not remember what it was and unfortunately don't remember how long I was on it but I think it was 3 months). It finally went away. I know that seems like a terribly long time to be on antibiotics but it was a very low dose. I will try to see if I can find what it was in my records but not sure I will be able to as it was a long time ago. Just thought I would mention this because sometimes they pick a broad spectrum antibiotic which may not be best to target what you have. If you have been repeatedly put on the same antibiotic you might ask your doctor about changing it up.
I am so sorry you have to deal with this and I recall how frustrated I was. It was actually my urologist who suggested the low dose antibiotic as I recall. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Can I ask your age? I have had the same problem for the last 10 months or so. Repeated flagyl scripts (500 Mg twice a day). It comes back within a week of stopping the medication. I'm 68 & sexually active, but with the same partner for 3 years. I never had multiple partners at the same time.
I have been suffering with reoccurring BV for quite some time. It happened several years ago and was on an antibiotic cream applied vaginally. It was metronidazole. After applying it weekly for several months (I think it was 3 months) and no sex for over a year, it cleared up. This may help the person experiencing the reoccuring BV has I have. Unfortunately last year, I got BV again and had a mild reaction from metronidazole so was switched to clindamycin. BV has reoccurred several times since then. I'm not sexually active at this time but am fearful that if I am, it will come back. My gynecologist has recommended an ongoing treatment program of weekly vaginal application of clindamycin with no end. I have questions of whether or not that is safe. Will I become resistant to clindamycin? Thank you.
I now have BV after prolapse (rectocele repair) surgery. I have had it for a month now and am on my 4th course of antibiotics, started w Cephlex, then Flagyl, then Leviflaxen and now I am using Flagyl gel. I am 69 and sexually active with my partner of 8 years( well, not now, I’m not) What kind of doctor primarily deals with this? My urogynecologist who did the surgery is not helpful…I went to see an Urology PA and am now on my 4th course of antibiotic. Neither the doc nor the PA explained what I had…I thought I was dealing with a UTI all this time. I educated myself about BV online and am so upset as this sounds like a chronic issue.
Hi, siosal. BV is bacterial vaginosis, the title of this thread. It can have symptoms similar to a yeast infection, but is caused by an imbalance of bacteria rather than yeast.

Wish I knew how to edit my last comment….I haven’t seen a gynecologist since my hysterectomy in 2011….guess that is my next step.
