Anyone been denied life insurance based on your MGUS dx?
My life insurance is about to time out. I’d like to get a policy to help tidy up things if I die the next 10 to 15 years. Anyone have experience in securing life insurance with a MGUS dx?

@pmm I will be interested to hear what other members have to say! I have a life insurance policy that was initiated before my diagnosis, so there was no need to disclose this health issue.

I had a blood draw and basic blood pressure, urine, and very rudimentary health history yesterday. They asked two health-related questions. They asked if I had cancer (no) then asked about heart health (fine). It will go to underwriting and will, I’m sure, ask for access to medical records. It will be interesting to know how they deal with the MGUS.
I will report back.

I've have been denied twice and was offered a very expensive policy due to my MGUS
That’s what I’m afraid of. I’ll let y’all know.
So I filled out the application which had lengthy health history questions. Will let you know.
I’m curious about wanting life insurance later in life. It’s usually for when you have dependents that you want to insure they are cared for after you’re gone.
So I guess since our kids are grown I wouldn’t need it anyway.🤔
*I see you are a retired SW- me too! I’m 64 and still have a couple virtual clients- LCSW practice.
Leslie, yes… I always said that my premature death would be financially more beneficial to my family than my social work income, but no thank you.
😂
My life insurance policy more or less expires at the end of the year. It would be very expensive and they don’t need that much. I am a planner, however. I want everyone to have a little mad money without my husband, feeling as though he would have to sacrifice anything. Just a small assurance that I have dotted all the i’s and crossed all the t’s before I close my eyes to eternal sleep. Not that I plan to do that anytime soon.
I was indeed an LCSW… I did private practice, ran psychiatric facilities, and foster home and adoption agencies in three different states. I finished up my career doing medical social work, which I dearly loved. I gave up my license this renewal cycle precisely because it keeps me from doing private practice or a job here…home study there…I know that “no” is the least accessible word in my vocabulary.
Back to insurance, everyone’s situation is unique. Adult children with special needs… Spouses and ill health… People who didn’t accumulate good retirement savings… There are lots of reasons people would opt to have a little life insurance. It will be interesting (and perhaps depressing) to see how an underwriter views a MGUS diagnosis.
Good points you made!
Reporting back…my application was denied on the basis of the M protein in my blood. Underwriter had no questions. Just a “hard no.”
I suppose it is what it is.
Wow!
