Carolg absolutely right we are our own health advocates Dr,s dont know our body ,we do, if it hurts you stop and see someone else DON'T be affraid to get a 2nd opinion
Carolg to answer about neuroma ,Im retired nurse it is usually of the foot between ,2nd@3rd toe swelling of a nerve its painful I have Morton,s neuroma had it injected once but the foot Dr I go to no.w believes in ICE and anti-inflammatory It says a neuroma can be in other parts but usually the foot.

Lioness, the surgeon I saw today told me this can occur when they cut through a nerve when doing the hip replacement.. I also had Morton's...Just have to be careful about the type of shoes I wear. I don't understand the point in getting a 2nd opinion if the doctor can't treat me. It's nuts.. I've been in pain since my fall in 2015 and it's starting to get me down. I also just discovered by reading an old x-ray report that I have disuse osteoporosis in the area of the hip replacement. This apparently occurred when I was nonweightbearing for 3 months with the tibial plateau and hip fractures. Sorry about all the whining. I just feel that some of these physicians don't think we're worthy of answers.

Hi there, frister. Thanks for your reply. A failed open reduction/reduction (ORIF) was the initial procedure I had immediately after my fall. All the hardware failed and I was in terrible pain. I went for a 2nd opinion today, which turned out to be extremely frustrating. I was told that hospitals use different companies for their prostheses and I must go back to the surgeon who did my hip replacement. I replied that it was too far for me to travel and wait for 3 to 4 hours to see this person. The doctor again insisted thst I had to see the original surgeon ASAP. I explained that my health care was in my hands and i wasnt going to be told what to do anymore. After more arguing, he decided to perform blood work to look for infection and a CT scan to look at the placement of the hardware. He also mentoned neuroma...not really sure what that means. As i was a medical transcriptionist for 25 years before i fell and broke myself in several places, I can decipher the Latin and Greek roots. However, i dont understand what it specifically means in relation to my pain. When looking for answers, please don't allow your physician to push you around. I was told for 6 months to wait and give it time. I truly hope you get the help you deserve and are entitled to. Let me know how things go for you.
Hi carolg,, wow,, I feel your pain ... but physically and mentally. thanks for the info on the ORIF.. I did Medical Transcription for 4 years,, but it was a little different than most transcription. I worked in a prison. so I had to know when the Dr's diagnosed something and what tests to send them our for and to what facilities.. I have been very savoy in learning anything and everything about an illness I or my husband has, He had a major stroke 34 years ago.. and lots of things that seems to happen due to the stroke. Anyway I agree with you that this second opinion is not what everyone thinks.. Most Dr's dont want to take on another dr's mistakes.. or a failed implant. or loosening.. Which can happen, due to the fixture loosening in or from the cement... I guess I need to get with the other dr, (not going to waste my money going), but will contact them to get the kind of fixture it was,, so if there is ever a recall -- .. but I dont know if I am going to go to another dr. I hope I can endure the pain.. but I have not had to deal with it as long as you .. I am only 8 months,, and this pain has been since the 3rd week after surgery.. so I know its surgery related.

Carolg funny you should mention this I just came from Dr she saw my c-reactive protein was 5.5 in normal range last blood work is was over 6 she said this shows the inflammation in your body She ask me what Im doing different Tumeric 400mg a day plus drinking ginger-tumeric tea which is for inflammation so drink up.

I don't know if this has to do with anything but I also started having terrible night sweats...to the point I needed to change my nightgown 3 or 4 times a night. I appreciate your help. Approx 4 weeks after the 2nd surgery, I started experiencing sharp burning sensations and numbing in the thigh area. I went to the Doctor, xrays were taken but nothing was found to be wrong. 2 years later the pain had radiated and gotten worse down my right leg to the ankle and was affecting my back. They kept saying the implant was okay and they can find nothing wrong. It has now been 6 1/2 years, after numerous physical therapy sessions, Epidural steroid injections shots to my back to help the back pain, and being evaluated for Neuropathy, they say they still can't find anything "wrong". I have now developed venous insufficiency in my right leg and Feb 2018 underwent a procedure to freeze a vein. The right leg is extremely painful and the toes on my right foot are completely numb, 3 minutes of walking on the leg is all I can about manage at this time. Unfortunately, I have also damaged the L5 nerve in my back and am now getting ready to have back surgery on 21 Sep 2018 to correct the pinched nerve at the L5. But the Spinal Specialist stated that this will not fix the pain in the right leg - it will only stop the pain on the left side of my body and in my back. The Spinal Specialist recommended that I go back to the Doctor who did the surgery and have them look at the right leg again, but i go there every 3 months and they keep telling me "that there is nothing wrong".
I don't know what to do, has anyone else experienced this pain in the legs after a hip surgery, that burning sensation in the thigh area followed by a freezing numbness of the thigh area and toes with radiating pain? The pain is there when I am walking, lesser when I am sitting, and lying down but still present.

@eleanor1. Hi Eleanor, hope that's your name. I am so sorry for what you are going through. It's been 3 years for me. I have been diagnosed with neuropathy, for which Lyrica has been a big help. I have also been told that my CT scan is normal. However, I know my body and I feel like I'm being impaled going up and down stairs. I had the injections last week and in return my blood pressure and blood sugar increased. I wish you well. I was told that the pain I had in my non surgical leg was because I was protecting the hip replacement side and putting more stress on the other side. Hope that makes sense. I found that the pain clinic people just want to inject me...I can't get the answers I need toes in my . People around me are getting a little tired of hearing me whine about the pain in my hip. I hope your surgery goes very well and you get relief.
