Excruciating abdominal pain- all tests fine
I had some bouts of quite bad abdominal pain for around 30 minutes a day for a couple of weeks. Then on Friday night it became excruciating. It wouldn’t subside and I ended up in A&E. It was so bad I was writhing around and screaming in pain. Nothing touched it apart from morphine. My blood tests, urine sample and physical examination were all fine. They sent me home with a prescription for morphine and said they couldn’t find anything wrong. I’m very concerned because to be at that level of pain there must be something untoward going on. At one point it was so bad I just wanted to die in that moment to stop it. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this or have an idea as to what this could be? My doctor was testing me for celiacs and IBS before this happened, however, although incredibly painful, I’m not sure that the agony I was in is anything to do with this. It felt like my organs were going to explode or like being stabbed repeatedly with a scorching hot knife all around my lower back, sides and from my pelvis to just below the breast bone.

I switched up my birth control pill maybe just before all of this started, so it’s a possibility it could be a side effect of that now that you’ve mentioned it
Did they by chance do a Carnett's test to check for ACNES (Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome)? It is a simple test that only takes one finger and is the definitive diagnostic for ACNES which I have and I also had a spontaneous onset after a couple of months of coming-and-going episodes, the last of which also sent me to the ER about when it also became chronic.
Have you ever had any previous abdominal or pelvic surgeries? If so, you probably have developed adhesions
Did this happen after eating? What side is pain on?

If you changed to a lower dose of birth control, maybe endometriosis could be cause. But my pain with endometriosis was not constant, it varied with my cycle.
It is worth asking provider about.

Hey Kathleen! Wife has been experiencing a lot of pain on her right side, under her ribs. She has been in pain for about 5 months now and on a lot of pain killers.
She just got denied to be seen with the Mayo Clinic, so I have been deep diving on here.
Found your post and looked this up and all the symptoms line up. It’s the first time she has had some hope for the doctors and being pain free!
Thank you for sharing!
I think I will ask about this. I had an ultrasound yesterday and they ruled out endometriosis and ovarian cysts, I’m at a bit of a loss because everything is coming back absolutely fine. I only get twinges of pain every so often now but makes me nervous in case I have another episode and have no idea what it is
Hi @kaande0104
It’s impossible to rule out endo with an ultrasound. Exploratory lap surgery is the only way to definitively rule out endo
