Suspected Endometrial Cancer: Cervix won't open to do biopsy
The lining of my uterus is thick so they tried to do a biopsy but my cervix would not open and they mentioned having a hysterocmy but I'm not sure about doing that without knowing if it's cancer or not.

I was giving hormone pills to see if it would help with thick uterus lining...gyn dr said he wanted to see if I would have a period...I tried estrogen, preestrogen, etc..boutv4 different ones but couldn't complete any of them due to severe muscle cramps in arms and legs...told him bout the side effect but was told he never heard of that so he dismissed it
So if someone has a hysterocmy, do they have to take hormones? And what do they do if a person can't tolerate hormone pills?
As far as I know, very few women who have been treated for endometrial cancer take hormones, either hormone replacement (aka HRT) or a hormone-related cancer drug, after a hysterectomy. Many pre-menopausal women who have a hysterectomy for reasons other than cancer do choose to take HRT to avoid the symptoms of going through menopause suddenly. But this is entirely their choice.
Have you had an endometrial biopsy or a D&C yet?
They tried but cervix wouldn't open to get biopsy . Was just told last year that I have abnormal bleeding. They see ot when they look at urine under a microscope but I recently got the " my chart" app and I've had this problem since 2016, just wasn't told.
"Cervix wouldn't open" isn't an excuse for them not to do anything. The first time they attempted a biopsy on me, the doctor had the same problem; the biopsy failed. In my case they scheduled a hysteroscopic D&C a month later. This is done under anesthesia. I think they use some sort of device to open the cervix. And I've learned from this group that it's also possible to get your cervix open enough for a biopsy by putting a certain pill in your vagina beforehand.
They should give you an option for figuring out what you have going on in there before you have to decide whether to have a hysterectomy.
Yes I was in hospital. Was put to sleep and it was a failure. At 1st it was attempted in office but since my cervix is so hard to reach they put me in hospital...seems like he could of used meds or something to get cervix open
Hi @debra54, I noticed that you started a few different discussions on the same topic. To help keep everyone in the same discussion chat and keep you connected, I merged all 3 discussions into one here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/hormones/
Have you considered getting a second opinion?
Do you think they tried a D&C, but failed? Did you read the description of what they did in MyChart? (My gyn oncologist doesn't communicate much with me directly, but he does write detailed descriptions of procedures in the chart, where I can see them.)
Can you go to a different doctor? This one doesn't seem to be making progress toward solving your problem. And you shouldn't have to deal with a doctor who dismisses your side-effects.
I agree..thank you. I live in a small town and he's the only gyn dr so I'll drive just 30 minutes to a city for another gyn dr. cu, he's not giving me answers or listening.
OK. Thank you. I'm pretty new on here so still learning. 😆
