I was about 67. Two of my sisters who are 8 and 10 years older than me fractured their hips and they continued to have pain for years. Age probably makes a difference in the healing. I wish you well. It is no fun.
I fractured my left hip and had hip replacement surgery in April of 2016. Last summer I started having thigh pain after walking or standing. It now becomes so severe that I have to sit or lie down with a heating pad. It becomes excruciating when driving. All of this is almost debilitating.
I fractured my hip aug. 2016 and still can't walk without walker because of pain. I am 82 so age may play a part. Dr. Mentionef revision surgery but dur to othet health problems and age,it would be risky. Good luck to you and God bless
I'm scheduled for hip replacement in February and am wondering whether those who are having pain had anterior or posterior incisions. Best of luck to them.

I had surgery for a fractured femur in 2005. Ever since had periodic pain in that area. Finally changed orthopaedists and found out the plate and screws in it are irritating thigh. Nurses have advised me to have the hardware removed. If pain worsens, I will. I am now 75 and in good health except for my "bird bones" from my red haired grandmother. I do enjoy the expressions on the faces of airport security when they see all my skeleton hardware! @leslie324
Hi.. I had THR on 10/25/17.. all went well. Was home after 2 nights in hospital.. I had ANTERIOR approach. My hip felt great within a week... was able to walk with and without cane... but I overdid it too soon... go slow with the recovery but make sure to do rehab exercises EVERY DAY AND FOR THE PRESCRIBED NUMBER OF TIMES....As the hip was healing however, my outer thigh was totally numb and swollen as was the incision site... I was told my doctors Physician assistant that the numbness and muscular pain in the thigh could last as long as 6-12 months...? I was feeling down after 6 weeks but am starting to see swelling go down and numbness disappearing... just make sure to ice and after a few weeks add moist heat with a bed buddy...everyone is different but I’m pleased with everything especially NO PAUN IN HIP... good luck on yours..
Husbands replacement gives sharp thigh pain. Took more than a year for a second opinion ortho to discover that a bone spur had grown at base of implant. Hard to spot on Xray. Only seen at certain angle. Told repeat surgery would fix; but, it might regrow. Chose to live with it. Several years out he is ok for everyday walking; but, no long hikes. Just a possibility.
@macsmom Hi! I have learned that not using a muscle for a length period causes the muscle, at the place it connects to the bone, to deteriorate and hurt just awful. This is called osteomalacia. I wonder if some for of this might be the problem. I have had it a couple times.
