Restarting meds: Did your anti-depressant work the 2nd time around?

Posted by sheton66 @sheton66, Jun 4, 2022

Hi, after being off venlafaxine for about 3months, I have to restart them as my depression has got worse. Has anyone gone through the same and did the anti-depressant work second time around?

Started venlafaxine again yesterday and feeling horrible 😞. 75mg, I feel so nervous and anxious from the meds on top of how horrible I felt which is why I started them again. How many days will I feel like this? Not feeling good, I should have never stopped taking them.

Trise, it's been a few days since you restarted Effexor. How are you feeling today? Is it getting better?

I hope you’re feeling better. It should take a few weeks by now. I started coming off Effexor and regret it so much. I feel stuck taking antidepressants. I wish I’d never started them.

I know what you mean.. I have used a number of different meds for anxiety and some helped and others didn’t…they take time for most people to start feeling better…also I have gone back to one that helped but not when I went back to it..not sure why this happened but there are so many brands…I know they are not a quick fix but on a good note they are not addictive and that’s a positive start.

@sheton66 I'm late to the party, but was wondering, did Effexor work for you again? I am in exactlly the same place right now. Thanks!

Hi all. Effexor worked well for me but due to symptoms weight and being very sluggish I had decided to get Weened off my 100 something dose in the end of March. Last week was my last pill of 37 and my doctor started me on 10 mg of prozac right after. While on the lowest dose and then prozac my depression and obsessive thoughts were back and I couldn’t handle the 5 days with crying spells and torturing everyone around me . As of 2 days ago I am back starting 75 Effexor again hoping it works and also upset I had to go back on this .
Anyone else similar?

@amandaxoxo1 I was wondering if you actually saw benefits the second time roung?

I’m restarting it again for the another round. This is not my second time or even third. I did see benefits each time. It does take time to work. I think to see full effects it takes about 6-8 weeks. I do have ADHD and realize that I have to take Effexor indefinitely. However, it also helps with pain, my severe anxiety, and depression. So it’s a multi-use medication for me. Hope this helps.

It didn't help me when I increased after tapering so I'm now trying cymbalta with remeron. So far no side effects and feeling a little better

I am on a low-dose of Celexa, once a day. This is my third time using this particular medication. It worked the first two times [2000 and 2005], and is working again for me. It helps the peaks and valleys even out. The other two times when I stopped it, I tapered off slowly, taking about 6 weeks to end my treatment with it. So far, it has been over 2 years on it, with no issue.

Very similar experience. I hate taking venlafaxine. I also felt sluggish and unmotivated, so I went off it for a while. I was motivated but mean and had horrific anxiety. So I went back on as well. From this forum I learned that making small adjustments to dose can help with the sluggishness.

Honestly, I do realize I cannot get off this medication and that’s a bit scary. But it’s very helpful for my ADHD and pain as well as PTSD so there’s that.
