The Right Diagnosis: H. Pylori infection

Posted by kidprodigy @kidprodigy, Jul 26, 2020

Howdy, Ya'all!

I want to let you know that I finally have the RIGHT diagnosis. I'm on Day 10 of the 14-day treatment plan for my H. Pylori bacterial stomach infection and I feel fantastic! The abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue and weight loss are almost a thing of the past. I've gained 2 lbs of body weight since I began treatment 9 days ago! I feel like I've been given a whole new body and a second chance at life!

Thank you all for your support during this challenging, 10-month long living Hell that I wouldn't wish upon even my worst enemy.

I got another upper endoscopy 1 year later.

I've heard that treating h pylori can increase symptoms of acid reflux and therefore my gastroenterologist said that even if he finds h pylori he may not want to treat it. Does this make sense? (Or, does it make sense to treat the h pylori and the acid reflux caused afterwards will get better over time?)

I would get a second opinion. I had h pylori in 1994 and they treated it but did not recheck it. Then after years of digestive issues chalked up to IBS and GERD, lipase in the 3-400 range they finally did an endoscopy and found I have chronic gastritis from a pervasive h pylori infection. My pancreas looks normal on MRCP. I’m now on a very restricted diet now and I’m told I may always have chronic gastritis.

This is what 1 day of the 10-day Pylera (bismuth quadruple therapy) treatment regimen looks like. I’ll take 3 capsules with meals 4 times per day in addition to 1 capsule of omeprazole 2 times per day. Each capsule contains a combination of tetracycline, metronidazole and bismuth.

Hello nice to hear from you, I'm suffering from persistent H.pylori for almost three years now, I have tried several medicines like the combination of amoxicillin, metronidazole and clarithromicin, then tetracycline+pantoprazone+tinidazole but still the h.pylori tests positive. Currently my doctor prescribed me Bismuth+ RIFABUTIN+. pantoprazone but unfortunately in our country we don't have rifabutin and Bismuth subsalicylate can you help me please on how to get those medicines

Hello. I have a Helicobacter pylori infection and my Dr prescribed omerprazole without clarithromycin antibiotic. Should I be taking a combination of both? I have no acid reflux or heartburn, Just the infection without those types of symptoms. I had a GI map analysis done by a holistic nutritionist that I see which is how I found out about the pylori infection. The test also showed I had low acid. The omerprazole reduces acid from what I’m reading. I’m very confused. Along with this, I’m having internal vibrations or tremors in my upper body when I lay down to fall asleep. They happen before I’m asleep and also wake me up from sleeping. Tomorrow I start the medication and I’m worried about hurting what good bacteria remains and the already low acid. The resting tremors are extremely unsettling. Any other information or feedback is so much appreciated.

I would think you need the antibiotic. I suggest you clarify with the dr and if this is what he wanted then you should get a second doctor's opinion.

I agree with t98. When I was diagnosed with h.pylori I was prescribed amoxicillin and cipro combined. My GI also put me on a PPI (like Nexium) double dose. I had a follow up stool test after completing antibiotics which was negative for h.pylori, but then read if a patient is taking PPI a false negative can be the outcome of test. Pointed this out to GI staff who agreed so then had to repeat test after getting off Nexium for a bit.

I had no idea I had h.pylori either. It was discovered during endoscopy. Good you found out though as it can cause problems down the road.

Best wishes to you, Cindy

Agree with getting a clarification and possible second opinion. I have also read about broccoli being used to treat h pylori at about 50% effectiveness. My holistic veterinarian prescribed brocoli sprout extract to treat my dog who was diagnosed with h pylori during her endoscopic procedure. I did not retest but her vomiting stopped and she regained her weight while taking the broccoli sprout extract and twice daily steamed organic broccoli. The GI veterinarian want a triple antibiotic and acid reducing combination that I knew she couldn't handle due to her delicate physiology.
Wishing you good health.

I had the h pylori and was sick and bleeding from hemorrhoids so finally stool test showed I had this. Put asap on 2 antibiotics, the omaprozole etc. cleared it up as a forerunner to stomach cancer(5 women in family died from stomach cancer). new stool test showed all clear. will get another in 9 mos. I had gastroenterologist not a general practitioner. Endoscopy showed no tumors per biopsy) but bile reflux and hiatal hernia(new). you need a stool test and the regiment I was given.
