Hello. 40 days post is a good time to continue with the extra calories. My hubby lost an additional 20 lbs in the 90 days following treatment. I encouraged him to eat because his body is healing which requires the extra calories. Keep up with the Boost! My husband likes the powder form mixed with full fat milk, although hasn’t continued on with it post treatment, hence his weight loss as well. Weight loss may be his future and although it is better to have a lean frame… it’s not good for healing. Physical activity is good for his appetite as well. Talk with your dietician about how to manage this going forward. His PET scan 90 days post treatment still showed some activity in his tonsil region, which may be just inflammation. They are repeating the PET scan in July. Anyone else had a first PET that wasn’t clear?

Concerned about activity on first scan. Is that a frequent outcome? His first one is scheduled in June

Finished 35 Radiation and two months chemo Aug 2022 for HPV related CA on tonsils. Lost 70 lbs had Gtube (now removed) due to inability to swallow etc. Going for 3rd PET in Sept 2023. Had a previous scan that still looked hot but biopsy showed no CA cells. Some foods I just don’t like taste of anymore and little saliva keeps me from others. Greasy fish (salmon) or meats (burgers brat worst) easier to get down too. I drink 350 cal ensure, dole fruit cups and cheerios regularly. Also frozen (obviously cooked) vegetables daily. Scrambled eggs. Very little bread crackers cakes etc as they are too dry. My wife says I’m too skinny but I actually like my weight as I am weighing what I did when I was in the Army 50 years ago. Just finished the last 100km of Camino in Spain going to join gym to try and add muscle mass without adding weight. Loose skin like many oldsters! Keep a bottle of water handy at all times still get a little freaked about choking. Take heart. It gets better but never like before. I tell people it’s like surviving a major car wreck as you will carry remnants of the “accident “ forever. Live your life as best you can every day thankful for it. (I am going back for more Camino) We are blessed to be in the fraternity of survivors for the rest of our lives no matter how long that may be. So when you can physically, get off the couch out of the house and be alive (I walk then walk some more). I wish you health, better days ahead and God’s Blessings.

Hi Sandralea58,

My story is similar to your husbands. I am 90 days post treatment and just got my PET scan results yesterday. Same status as yours. Some residual metabolic activity which could be inflammation, scar tissues\, or residual tumor. My tumor board meeting this week to discuss.
Very nerve racking isn't it? I had breast cancer 15 years ago and don't remember it being this stressful/worrisome. Mainly because BC is more common and resources everywhere.
I too have lost additional weight post treatment (overall 30 lbs but 7 lbs post ). Swallowing issues impede me from eating freely in public and whatever I want. I did learn a new trick and that is to pour olive oil on your food. I dipped my veggie burger in it and it gave it all the fat and moisture to pass the hatchet smoothly. Pour this in your smoothies and oatmeal. Over your quinoa/rice/beans. Good Fat. I was also told to put powdered milk in your regular milk to add to your coffee/tea/smoothies. Adds protein & extra good stuff.
I agree with other posts that our bodies are healing which is why we need additional calories and our sleep. We need to be gentle and kind to our healing bodies and give it as much as healthy calories as it needs. Not sure I would gobble up a bunch of sugar just yet though unless your see your rib cage ( not joking...keep an eye on this and if you see ribs...eat ice cream!)
I look forward your posts to see how you July Pet comes out. I wish you a quick recovery.
