Pain And Changes In Weather...Am I Alone????

Posted by cahnny @cahnny, Sep 10, 2016

I've read articles saying that changes in weather can effect severity of pain and, of course, there's the old timers who swear the old bones ache when it's gonna rain. Well I guess, at 70 years old, I'm now an old timer and, let me tell you...my old bones and muscles, and skin, and hair HURT. There are days I hurt from neuropathy and Morton's Neuroma in my feet and legs, to profound itching along my degenerating spine (I think due to pinches nerves), to aching joints, swollen cysts behind my arthritic knees, gut discomfort from IBS, pinched nerves EVERYWHERE to neck pain that goes down my arms, to skin that just feels sore and tingly. I'm talking all these things all at the same time. It's like someone flipped a switch and lit me up like a roman candle. One doctor will say...that could very well be. Another doctor will say poppy cock. Well poppy cock this...I know my body and I know how it feels and I know it's not in my head. Now it might be coming FROM my head...as in mixed up signals from the brain saying YOU'RE IN PAIN but the pain and sensations are real.

I needed a new bedside alarm clock so purchased a clock that also provides barometric pressure, temperature, and humidity readings. It seems, without fail, on days when there is a dramatic swing in barometric pressure my body goes into all over intense pain mode. Do any of you have the same experiences??? I'm not talking just a little aching. I'm talking REAL discomfort.

I agree with you and I have the same issue. I have had 7 surgeries and 4 of them have been replacements. My life and a job I loved was lost because of the pain. I need a spine replacement but unfortunately they are currently not doing those. I’m 68 and never thought my life would end like this.

I feel for you. I have a spine degeneration condition which they don't know the cause of and I suffer daily with chronic pain which I noticed increased with more humid and cold weather. Medication doesn't do much in terms of reducing it but I find a heating pad helps as well as arnica gel.

I am sooo sorry. Our conditions sound similar. I take 8 Tramadol’s a day and they barely scratch the serface of the pain. I switch off with ice and heat while laying flat.

2 days of rain equals 2 days of agony

Sorry you have suffered so much. Have any of the surgeries been successful?
Unfortunately there is no “fix” for spinal problems.
I have not heard anything positive about surgery for the discs and spine.
Keep doing the best you can.

Yes I had two knee replacement and two hip replacement’s and soldier surgery and my neck and they all worked out great and all done by the same surgeon. But he did my back and it just did not work. As you said rarely does back sun work especially if it is arthritis issues. You have better chances if it’s nerve issues.

I take 1 200 mg of ibuprofen in the morning and one at night as well as 2 mg of hydromorphine every 4 hours which barely makes a dent in my pain levels but its better than nothing. I don't get a high from the opiods and have been able to keep the amount taken stable as increasing didn't decrease the pain and it started stiffening my stomach muscles. I use arnica gel with menthol that I find helps with the fibromyalgia pain in my arms, shoulders, hips, sides of my legs and a little on my back dorsal muscles. Its a natural topical gel that I find helps reduce my pain like some people would feel using Voltaren which does nothing for me.

I find my motorized lazy boy chair is what helps relieve my back pain the most. Its the first time in 6 years that I can sit without having yo suffer excruciating pain. Keeps me stuck in the house but at least it makes my life much more enjoyable with significantly less pain.

I also find doing short guided meditations help with relaxing my body which also helps temporarily reduce pain as well as helps me have a more positive outlook on my life.

I’m so sorry you are suffering from terrible pain. I know what it’s like. May I ask you what is your diagnosis...what’s causing you excruciating pain when sitting? I have similar pain coming from a pinched nerve in L4.

Yes that’s what was done on my shoulder. Of all my surgeries it was the worst. But I understand it’s much better these days. Modern medicine.
