I am discontinuing use of Prolia for osteoperosis and want to go the drug-free route of exercise and supplements to support my rebuilding and strength of bone as well as my overall health. I have a history of dental issues despite my excellent oral hygiene practices. I am very health conscious and am fearful of the risks that go with Prolia and other drugs. The research of bone building supplements is daunting and I want to take what is truly best. I see that strontium is proven to help with bone density building, along with Vit K, D3, magnesium, calcium (which form?), also boron, collagen...What should I use? I'm preparing for an appointment with my primary care doc to share why I am not continuing with Prolia. I'm 65, 5 years cancer free, and doing lots of research! Thanks!

@srose be careful coming off Prolia. Most people need to transition to another drug, usually a bisphosphonate, at least for a time, because there can be a signficant drop off in bone density when leaving Prolia (and increased fracture risk). I am sure your doc can tell you if this is a risk for you.

I don’t know how long you’ve been on Prolia but I believe the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw increases the longer you are on a bisphosphonate, Prolia, or other med that lists ONJ as a potential side effect.
I learned this (and you can get more info about it) from Margie Bissenger’s “Happy Bones, Happy Life” 2/28/2023 episode with R. Keith McCormick interview about osteoporosis meds. It’s available on the internet or podcast. To date, I have found the episode the most helpful and useful info in trying to understand osteoporosis meds, though McCormick’s new book (and old one too) also is very helpful!
