CPAP 0 events

Posted by sherrill @sherrill, Apr 23, 2023

I've be on a CPAP machine for only 5 days. I don't know how many events I had during my test. I had .4 the first night, 2.1 the second night, .2 the third night, and 0 the last 2. Is this normal to have 0 events if I have sleep apnea or should I be worried something is wrong with my machine or my data

My experience makes me think that's just fine (of course I can't say for sure about you). I had a similar pattern. If you're really concerned, I would ask my CPAP vendor about it to make sure your unit is okay.

Hi @sherrill, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @timbrownfl. I agree with Tim about the 0 events being OK. It sounds like your CPAP is doing it's job in lowering or eliminating events. My target given by my sleep medicine doc is to have an AHI of 4 or less which I normally have.

I think a quick call or message on your patient portal if you have one might ease your concern. My sleep study showed 55+ obstructive sleep apneas. It took me well over a year to get my numbers down below 4. The first year I was as high as 10 with the CPAP machine and gradually worked the numbers down.

My own AHI measured by my ResMed 11 Elite has me running between 0 and 1.9. Depends on the night, nasal congestion, the position of your head on your pillow, what you ate at supper, or worse what you ate just before bed, etc, etc. Anything below 5.0 is 'treated', but the heavy majority of us work to get below 2.0 if at all possible.
