Post Covid chest tightness, pressure in throat, dizziness, SOB
My 80 year old mother had COVID 4 weeks ago. She had horrible headaches for 3 days. Did not require hospitalization but symptoms lasted for 7-10 days. Now, 3 weeks later she is having this pressure in her throat, chronic fatigue (she is extremely active for her age, walks a few miles everyday prior to COVID), dizziness, shortness of breath. She was admitted to the hospital to look at her heart and all the tests show her heart is strong, valves are clear, essentially no problems. She is wearing a heart monitor for 2 weeks though. A brain scan was done and that was completely fine. Any advise of what we should do moving forward? Her blood pressure was high before going into the hospital and is now very good with medications that were prescribed for her. No one can tell us why she is feeling like this and what she can do to get better.

And by the way... thank you for sharing. I am sure this will help many others. 🙂
I have gone through what you have described. In Jan of 22 I ended up in the ICU for one week. My blood pressure was extremely high where normally it was on the low side. I have been on blood pressure
Meds ever since. Low energy but getting slowly better. This covid is no cold it is hard to deal with. I still get the palpitations and dizzy spells trying to be more active. I couldn’t lift anything either. I am trying hard to get my strength back and get back to my normal active self again. Hope you are doing much better now.
Your story certainly is inspiring to me. I have had many things that you describe happen to me. I was very active too but it has been slow going since then. I have had this since Jan 22. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing and I wish you a full recovery.
My first post on here, I hope I'm putting this in the right place. 2 questions please:
1. Do all long-covid sufferers have the "ground-glass opacity" in your lungs? & did they tell you this essentially viral pneumonia? Mine did, & said it may take 6 months - a year to heal. Also going thru lots of tests on my heart to see if blockages have gotten worse (had a small amount 4 years ago), I'm having lots of what seems to be angina pectoris episodes.
Thanks for sharing info.
2. I'm wondering if I should wear masks when I go out. I'm concerned about how harmful it would be if I get another illness on top of this or especially if I get covid again.
I'm sorry you are dealing with this also. This blog I believe
(thank you Mayo) will
help others understand by people like you sharing their story. The ER put me on a beta blocker for the palpitations but I would not take them due to my low blood pressure. I have always had very low blood pressure to me that would be adding another health issue.
I hope you are feeling better soon. Hang in there. Stay 💪 strong.
I don’t have lung issues from my long covid, but I think I have angina episodes (I call them heart flares). I’ve had long covid since July 2022, and when I got the flu in Sept, it really made my long COVID symptoms much worse. I don’t go anywhere without a mask.
I'm sorry for all that for you. I'm having that, too. I'm having an Echo ultrasound stress test next week & then ANOTHER CT scan, to look at the heart this time because I have a huge family history of heart issues. It's scary & frustrating stuff, isn't it?! Best wishes & prayers to you for healing!
I contracted Covid in April of 2022. All the classic symptoms and then some! I still have heart flare ups, as you call them; lots of chest pain and still undergoing testing. I don't go anywhere without masking (I use the KN95). The last thing I want is to be re-infected. I don't know if I will ever be comfortable without one ever again.
It's May and I'm still masking whenever I'm indoors or close to people. I had Covid in August and have been struggling with Long Covid ever since. I also was very active before and now can't do a whole lot without paying a price for using up my energy. I absolutely do not want to get Covid again so I mask and take other precautions. I make no explanations about why I'm wearing a mask unless I'm asked. I just want to protect myself and wear KN-95 masks.
I should add that I've been very short of breath when I do much at all. I've been seeing a speech therapist for an issue of hoarseness and today she gave me breathing exercises which I think will be helpful.
