Post Covid gastrointestinal issues: How long do they last?

Posted by clmmdm @clmmdm, Mar 19, 2023

Two months out from having Covid. Gastrointestinal issues still bothering me. Gas pains throughout mid section. Dr put me on Pantoprazole last week. Somewhat better but still experiencing gas pains.

My issue is somewhat different. I'm somewhat sick on my stomach all the time. I do not vomit; I don't have diarrhea or constipation, as a general rule. Just sick feeling no matter what I eat. I do yogurt every day and eat very small amounts of solid food. Not tomatoes or anything with acid. Not caffeine and no fired food. I also have a Ensure Plus shake every day. The med's I'm on are Pantoprazole each morning and Famotidine each evening. I'm going to try adding the ginger tea.
My COVID was in Nov of 2022 and I still do not have my smell or taste back. I feel that it is all related. Anyone with ideas please send them my way. Thanks

I am now 3 months out from having Covid. I have the gas pains in mid section like you. After a month on Pantoprozole I decided to get off it as it wasn’t really helping. Just staying on probiotics for now. Some days are good then the gas pains start up again! Going to try ginger tea next. Wondering if this will ever end!!!

Also, I have been taking Gas X to relieve the gas.

I've had gastro issues for almost a year and a half. Have had every test there is, and they all come back normal. It is so frustrating.

Same. I have been to every Dr and Nutritionist, Functional medicine dr's. Everyone knows what to do but nothing works. Paleo, Fodmap, Gluten free diets not helping. Digestive Enzymes not working much either. I have lost 25 lbs and still losing slowly.

It is nice to know that we're not alone in this. Next week I have a tube put down my throat to my esophagus, which has to stay in for 24 hours. It's to check for acid reflux. I DON'T HAVE ACID REFLUX!! I think drs. just don't know what to do for us.
I am now trying Keifir, which someone suggested on this site. It's cultured low-fat milk with live and active probiotics in it. It tastes terrible, but at this point I'll try anything.
Keep me posted on how you're doing, and if you find anything that works.

I’ve been using probiotics for gastric troubles but the improvement is slow if any. I do get some relief from Pepto-Bismol, it’s well known and been around for a long time. I have a problem with my food tasting bad or foreign at times, this usually happens when I’m really having a rough time with my symptoms, I haven’t heard anything from other people about this symptom from covid but maybe it’s not a covid symptom…

I have just started drinking
Bigalow ginger tea which has added probiotics in it so I will see if that helps.

I recently noticed that probiotics come in tea, perhaps it’s been available for a while.. I use the yogurt drinks and find them helpful, the natural unsweetened variety is a little hard to tolerate taste wise but they do come in fruit flavours. I also drink ginger tea on a regular basis and it also soothes my stomach, it’s always preferable to find natural products to help you but only when possible to do so.

I have posted before but what has helped me a lot is using a digestive enzyme, a prebiotic and probiotic. Was suggested by my chiropractor and supported by my pcp and GI doc. Need to give it 12 wks to get the full benefit. If u want more detail about how and when to take them let me know. It's been a journey to get to a much better place with my covid gut.

Thanks ! I am taking a prebiotic/probiotic but haven’t taken an enzyme. I would like to know how and when you take them,
The ginger tea with probiotics seems to be helping me somewhat. What is the enzyme you are taking and is it a prescription? It’s nice to hear that someone like you is feeling better. Gives me hope’
