Anyone else diagnosed with acoustic neuroma, a benign brain tumor?

My name is Tracy Daley. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. My diagnosis is a jumbled mess that I am sorting out right now. Can anyone tell me if anyone in this support group has been diagnosed and/or treated for acoustic neuroma, a benign tumor affecting the acoustic nerve, which is the eighth cranial nerve in your brain? This nerve is connected to your ear. These tumors initially affect a person's balance and hearing and then other symptoms may appear. This is a very rare tumor and one out of 100,000 people and 8-9% of the intracranial tumors. If no one has heard of this tumor, I understand.

I was asked to return to work a few hours a week and i accepted. Hope i can do it. I start nect Monday.

I will see only 3 clients next week on 3 different days to start. That will give me lots of recovery time. My challenge will be driving myself and and the walking in the building.

Yes, I can understand those challenges, @rose4622. Will you have handicapped parking available to help with the walking to the building? If not, that might be a good thing to get in place before Monday.

We do have handicapped parking. I still have some balance problems after driving or riding in a car. Wondering if I should play it safe and take my walker or try to get by with my cane. Don't want to look sick to my clients. The session needs to be about the client.

If it were me, I'd use the walker, @rose4622. In my humble opinion, staying upright is more important than appearances in your situation. I'm sure your clients have seen people use walkers after surgery and if they comment about it, you can have a short statement prepared that you are being extra cautious since your surgery and then move the conversation along to a topic about them. I feel sure that the clients will be happy to have you there and recognize your kind, helpful manner.
