I am not trying to criticize your methods, I believe you have been instrumental in shedding light on this topic. But as a former tech worker, I have a healthy distrust of shiny new tech tools that wow us with amazing features while they insinuate themselves into our every day lives before we even know what they are and how they do what they do. Google and other search engines can also sell you a bum steer. Hopefully beneath these search tools is a primary source that is vet-able.

Anyone have a connection between silicone breast implants and idiopathic small fiber neuropathy?

I have had lots of tests for my PN and I am still idiopathic. However I have one mild suspicions for a possible cause. I moved into an apartment with a very comfortable couch (foam) and my neuropathy symptoms started a few months later. I spend hours a day on this couch watching TV and often sleep on the couch and I am wondering if there are neurotoxic chemicals in it (fire retardent maybe) that had an effect. Anyone seen anything like this ?

Because you mentioned the symptoms beginning after you moved in, I am going to suggest another cause - also related to your very comfortable couch.

You are spending way too much time on that couch. Foam couches in general are not good for providing adequate support (unlike mattresses, they are not meant to be used for many hours) so you are probably suffering misalignment of bones, stress on muscles and ligaments, and nerve compression.

Your body is meant to move, and you should be getting up and moving every 30 minutes or hour. And not just to the kitchen for a beverage or snack - real movement, take a walk, do a chore, grab some free weights and do a few reps.

I'm not saying a bed shouldn't be comfortable, but when you sleep, you need a supportive surface. It is only in recently that we began sleeping on "ultraplush" "Aah, sink into me" mattresses. You probably grew up sleeping, like many of us, on a single bed with a minimally cushioned mattress that you could use as a trampoline. A foam couch is NOT that surface.

Finally, if you are a gamer, all of the above apply, plus hunching over a controller for hours adds the stress of small, repetitive movements and poor posture.

So, what small step can you take to get away from that couch?

Thanks. However I am pretty fit, have a BMI of under 25, and play competition tennis and walk 10,000 steps a day. However, maybe the couch has not helped my posture. I am not sure that is the cause of my PN.

I get neuro sensations from toxic things in the environment, including new clothes and new furniture. I believe it is fire retardants and other things used to treat fabric. Foam can outgas in time. Some manufacturers will outgas before purchase.
