Living with diverticulitis: How do I keep it from coming back?
How do I keep this from coming back? My Dr. Has no solutions, and I wish I could be more aware when it will flare up.

Thank you, for those ideas. Was on high fibre until latest flare up. I haven’t tried liquorice root. Appreciate the suggestion.

3 ReactionsI take Meta Mucil every day. What is GTalt immune butyric acid. I have diverticulosis and some days, I'm fine. Some days I have severe pain on my right side like someone is stabbing me. Doctor said it's forever, but it's gotten better than a few months ago, but some days it's so very painful. Is there no way to get rid of it? I now only eat fish or chicken, certain vegetables, and vanilla ice cream.
I would love to know how to get rid of it. My body is so tired from it.

3 ReactionsThank you for your comment. I have had to resort to antibiotics when things have gotten really bad. The Butyric I’m still looking into with a pharmacist friend of mine. It makes me hopeful reading some of the research around it. I will update you when I know more.

2 ReactionsIt never goes away once the pockets (divertculi) have developed in the walls of the colon. In most cases it will continue to form new pockets as the years go on.

2 ReactionsHow terribly sad that Diverticulosis will never go away. I am fine for a week more or less, and then........surprise one day!!!!! I'm in terrible pain and it's returned! I'm afraid to leave my home not knowing when it will start. Why do I need to return to the doctor if it will never go away??

2 ReactionsIt needs to be monitored because of the possibility of a infected Diverticuli rupturing and causing a serious infection of the colon. The Diverticuli can burst and leak bowel contents into the abdominal cavity if you have Diverticulitis.

2 ReactionsI find that so frustrating. No way to treat long term and no cure. Soft diet and loose stool seems the only way to manage the flare-ups. I thought our bodies were pretty amazing at healing themselves with the right diet. Is this the exception?

1 ReactionMy husband used to get diverticulitis on an occasional basis for several years. It has been 2 years now since he has had an attack. The only change he has made was adding a probiotic pill to his diet.

2 ReactionsThanks for that great suggestion, @treesab. Yes, I've found that a probiotic pill is a great help with diverticulitis symptoms. Also, a low residue diet is most effective for me.
