A year and a half from TKA, was doing great, sudden changes

Posted by flagulf @flagulf, Mar 28, 2023

Has anyone had sudden changes after TKA? I was fine, about 2 months ago major swelling, range of motion limits. To the point where I can’t simply take a walk. The knee is warm to touch, and painful when it swells up. I ice and rest, the back to ok until I try another walk. Incredibly frustrated.

My swelling is on and off, almost exclusively when I take a walk. It goes away after a few days of rest and ice, but returns as soon as I go for a walk again. It becomes so stiff and I can barely bend it, and it’s painful then. My team has been supportive, but I’m in a different state. I will be going for a check up, hoping for something small and manageable.

I am 7 months out of revision… I exercise everyday …. I was feeling tight behind my knee for a bit hurt to bend but biked anyway …. Finally talked to my chiropractor she did graston technique on Thursday and taped it no pain that night walking or bending …. Still feels good I have been icing but I have taken a break from bike for few days… thought may help you I don’t don’t know how long ago your surgery was… I hear what you are saying my granddaughter is 4 whom I watch is very busy …good luck

I’m a year and a half out. I was walking fine, taking walks a few miles long. On pavement, grass, and beach. So this just started about 3 months ago, but nothing happened to me. I use an exercise bike and elliptical at home, continue to do leg exercises. All of that is ok, and I always ice after. I’ve started to use a compression brace after I walk, but my goal with surgery was to not need a brace.

I hear you …,that is strange… my only thought because I have not experienced just read a lot is scare tissue….if everything is ok I would try myofascial release and graston technique they both work towards scar tissue … hope you figure out what is going on and easy fix

That was my thought, just can’t understand why it’s happening this far out. What is graston technique? I have had myofascial on other parts, and have a good massage therapist. I’m hoping my Dr recommends anything other than more surgery.
