Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?
I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

Tymlos is a daily injection often into your belly fat. My anxiety level was very high because of the needle. That is over, but I'm still anxious because I'm don't know if it is working. My Registered Nurse neighbor checks on me every day and reminds me to take a deep breathe and trust my doctor.
I've been on Prolia for 3 years with no serious side effects. My spine has improved so that it is now in the normal range but my hips have continued to decline. Now they're -3.2. My Dr. is recommending Evenity and I am still collecting more information before I decide.
I was in HORRIBLE pain with a toothache last week and I went in to my dentist and he said “I cannot pull your tooth because you are on Prolia but you cannot continue to suffer with the pain that you have experienced the last 5 days. So…..he did a root canal even though I am on Prolia. HE HAD NO CHOICE!! Oh well!!!
Thank you Kolika for the hug. If you read my comment today about having to have a root canal while on Prolia, REALLY needed that hug!
Sarah: my heart breaks for you and your mother. I wish the outcome was different but, fortunately, the two of you dealt with the incredulity of the tragic situation with grace and love for each other.
CMDW: thank you for letting me know that my information was useful. My last goal in life (since I am 85) is to help as many people as I can to accept what is and to be strong until the end.

I want to respond to your request about Prolia. I also had to request another med and had a consultation with my Mayo endocrinologist. I should mention that I spent two successful years on Tymlos and want to avoid fractures like most of us.
So.....on June 13, 2022, I started on a weekly tablet of Alendronate to replace the Prolia. My issue was that my body couldn't handle the full dose of Prolia twice a year. Its half-life was too long for me and caused a few problems. I am now taking a tablet every Monday morning instead of two infusions a year. I follow the instructions to sit up for 30 minutes after taking the tablet and avoid food or beverages which gives the tablet a chance to dissolve appropriately.
I have absolutely no side effects and feel secure about the shared decision for preventing fractures from osteoporosis.
Please remember that you must transition to a new medication in a timely fashion to avoid fractures. Are there any other issues that concern you at this point?
May you be safe, protected and free of inner and outer harm.
Chris
I am also on Prolia and just last week had to have a root canal. I hope we both have no issues after having the procedure.
Doreen: we really didn’t have a choice so I am going to try not to worry about it. Was your molar on the top or on the bottom. Mine was on the top next to a Wisdom tooth. Oh well, good luck to both of us. Thanks for your reply.
My tooth that had the root canal was midway upper. We still have to take care of our teeth so you're right in that we had no choice. Odds are greatly in our favor that all will be well so yes, good luck to both of us and try not to worry.
