Does anyone have experience with a lumpectomy and a breast reduction?

Yes I had a lumpectopy a year ago. I was 64 at the time. I had it done at the same time as the lumpectopy so I was only under anesthesia once. It worked well for me. I also had a breast reduction at 50 so I knew what to expect. You will have tubes in for a week to 10 days for drainage. You will need to make sure you empty the tubes because you can get an infection or very sore due to the fluid build up. Iwas very satisfied with the results.

I had a lumpectomy in 2017 My scar is only about 1 1/2” long. I’ve never been bothered by it and wouldn’t hesitate having it done again with lumpectomy. I’m big bustard dd/ddd but scares me go through a reduction I went through enough pain with chemo that I don’t want to inflict more pain. Best of luck with your procedures 🤞

Thanks. I’m going to see the plastic surgeon tomorrow for the first time. My lumpectomy is scheduled for the 11th; my cancer surgeon recommended I have a reduction and lift at the same time. I’m really nervous. Will know more after I actually talk to the plastics guy. Thanks for responding.

I had a 2mm cancerous tumor and DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) which was benign. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel lobe checked out. There was no cancer in the lymph glands thankfully. Now they tell me I need to have 'either' radiation to the breast or Anastrozole 1 mg for 5 years. Not sure why, but they said I could have either of those but not both? Since they kept saying my tumor was 'teeny tiny' I wonder why I should have either of those?

I assume it’s just to be extra sure there’s no stray cancer cells around Ask them to carefully explain their reasoning on all options. Hugs to you as you make a decision.

I had Invasive DCIS…lumpectomy first with reduction and lift in a second surgery. My surgeon wanted to make sure my margins were clear of cancer before plastics did the reduction/lift. I’m thankful I didn’t have the lift/reduction at the same time as the lumpectomy because margins still had cancer. In a second surgery, oncologist removed more cancerous tissue and then plastics did the lift/reduction in that same surgery. LOVE the results. All the best to you!

I have a similar tumor and will have a partial breast radiation and Aromatase inhibitors for 7-10 years. Are you on some kind of a trail?

I had the same (DCIS left breast, no lymph nodes involved). Lumpectomy and oncoplastic at same time (Dec). Had 16 sessions of radiation begun 4 weeks after the surgery. I wasn’t given an “either/or” option—both were offered. But it was explained that radiation provided 30% additional risk reduction for cancer recurrence, whereas the hormone pills added about only 4% risk reduction. That small reduction plus the likelihood of the side effects from Anastrozole were the reasons why I am not taking Anastrozole. I’m 73. All done now and so far so good. All these decisions and new information is daunting but you will get through it! Wishing you well and good outcomes.

I had both at the same time in Dec. All turned out fine and I’m thrilled with the new “girls”! The breast surgeon was pleased that they were done at same time because that gave the option of wider margins around the tumor, allowing for more tissue to be examined in pathology and greater assurance that all was removed.
As to the plastic: I was a dd before and at 73, very droopy and uncomfortable with the heaviness and skin irritation from them. Size now is approximately a “c”. Overall mild discomfort but not a whole lot of pain. Swelling lasted awhile and healing has gone well and is still going on— I occasionally feel strange little pains in each breast, and sometimes a split-second long piercing pain. Had radiation for 16 sessions (4 weeks after surgery), no chemo and am not taking Anastrozole. I have a follow up with the plastic surgeon next week. Bottom line is that I’m thrilled with the plastic and glad I had both at once. Wishing you good outcome and good—better-health!

I meant to add in my previous response to you that the reason for anything additional is because there is some risk of recurrence even though the tumor was tiny and removed. I had exactly the same reaction initially. My understanding is that there’s a 60% chance that cancer will not recur but the radiation could increase that to 90. % or so. The Anastrozole would add only about 4% or so.
