No vision in one eye after a fall

Hello everyone,
My mother 74yrs fell outside after leaving a restaurant after dinner. She was taken by ambulance to àn area hospital. After the scans and test results came back she was kept over night for observation being discharged the following day. She was very lucky to be leaving looking horrible from all the bruising and swelling on her face but with no broken bones or serious injuries. However 2 weeks later bruising is still presently slowly going away and she hasn't been able to see out of one eye, which still has visible bright blood in the eye and also having a very hard swollen round ball size on the cheek under her affected eye, but has no pain or any other present conditions as a result of her fall. We have had no luck yet with learning why she still can not see out of her one eye and the Drs are unable to give any answers as to why this would be or even where to take her for further diagnosing and treatment. Has anyone else had or known of a similar situation this has been experienced or maybe know of a Dr who may be known for helping with this sort of injury? I am at a complete stand still of knowing where to turn with helping her get answers or for understanding her vision loss and if she is going to ever get it back? I will appreciate any feedback or suggestions for helping her. Thank you

My only suggestion would be an ophthalmologist or Neuro-ophthalmologist.

@krisnphx, I completely agree with @jakedduck1 that your mom should be seen by a specialist. An ophthalmologist or neuro-ophthalmologist are good suggestions.

Your mom may be experiencing something called post traumatic vision loss. You can read more about it in this review article:

As the article suggests, emergency room diagnosis of post-traumatic vision loss is challening and specialist follow up is recommended.

How is your mom doing? Those bruises can be frightening can't they?

My mother was 72 when she experienced a very similar type of fall, and her retina detached. I am assuming that doctors have checked her retina, but if not, get her in ASAP.

I had a retina detachment last July--totally lost sight in left eye--and now, thanks to the Eye Associates of Sarasota--can once again see out of my left eye. It's not all the way back yet but is getting better as time goes by. I had a laser surgery this past week which helped and am waiting on fluid in the eye to go away(this from a previous surgery) which should help even more. If the problem is with the retina there is definately hope as the success rate of the surgery is 86%!!
