Could exposure to heavy metals cause dementia?

How can you determine exposure to heavy metals (JP-5 jet fuel) and celalube (hydraulic fluid) could be a cause my dementia? JP-5 has lead in it and I was 17 years old working on the flight line for three years and the hydraulic fluid was found to be to corrosive and had to be changed to glycol.

What is the effect, if any breathing heavy metal at young age? I worked on a flight deck for years starting at 17 and had no protection from breathing all the heavy metals in aircraft fuel.

I was also exposed to nitro glycerin in its per form for 3 years could that chemical cause dementia like issues.

Hello @gcranor. There seems to be urine tests that could help you confirm both recent and chronic exposure to heavy metals. Have you shared your interest in testing with your doctor?

You have to advocate for yourself as far as asking for tests because they usually just get you in and out and about 15 minutes

I agree. You have to request the tests needed to see if you currently still have toxic levels that can cause neurological damage.
I’m used to dealing with lead poisoning in children.
I don’t know what other chemicals you were exposed to but if you can find out then go ahead and request it.
