Have any of your men used Lupron shots?

I have been off Eligard since June 2022. I am off Xtandi too. The fatigue improves after discontinuing Eligard. I took it for so long due to having a very aggressive cancer. Gleason 9. 24 months for your husband may be enough but his urologist decides that. Some people are off and on this drug. Best for your husband. He needs to stay positive. It’s a long and difficult road but it may lead to a beautiful destination.

Before. I regularly went to the urologist every 6 months for PSA bloodwork since there is so much history of cancer on both sides of my family. My PSA hovered around 5-6 more or less for years. Then in December 2020 it came up at 42. Two weeks later it was 72. So, it was certain something bad was up. January 2021 my doc did biopsies or my prostate and 12 of 14 samples were cancerous. I suspected metastases were likely and after a scan in February 2021, that suspicion was confirmed with mets detected in my bone in five places: my pubic bone, left clavicle, a thoracic vertebra, left pelvic bone and a rib on the right side. The cancer was very aggressive and stage 4. Six rounds of chemo (March-July '21) , ongoing 3- month Eligard injections, ongoing Abiraterone acetate (Since March 2022) and Provenge therapy(January-February 2023) happening in the order just described. No surgery. I am without pain. Lots of continuing fatigue due to almost undetectable testosterone levels. Long answer....sorry!

three and a half years. My PSA went from undetectable to 0.3. A PET scan was clean but they added Xtandi to my regimen. The PSA was undetectable again after just 3 weeks. That is why I was on ADT so long. But I do not regret it. I have been in remission for 4 years now.

Wellness 100. I think that Xtandi is an androgen receptor inhibitor, much like the Erleada that I was on in a clinical trial. The Erleada clinical trial statistics were that the Erleada prevented the PC from progressing for an average of 41 months. Thereafter, they have other treatments to keep us going as long as possible.

Is he on hormone therapy? As soon as I went on that the pain in my side, chest and going area went away. I am not on pain meds at all. But, that's my situation.

Were your mets found with a regular MRI or did you have the newer type scan? Good to hear you don’t have pain. My husband was also Gleason 9, 12 out of 12 cores and most lymph samples taken were positive. When doing ct getting ready for radiation they found kidney cancer. They removed the kidney and has done fine with one kidney, but two surgeries in one yr were rough. Since starting the adt he has also had very hard time controlling diabetes. He only took one pill of metformin daily before the treatment, now he has to take 3-4 injections daily. I just wish he could get off of it. I pray the cancer is gone. So your testosterone levels have remained low after stopping treatment?

You said clean scan, so your mets are gone? That is awesome to hear!

Yes. The radiation therapy erased them. By the 20+ session of the 39, the technician told me Mets were gone. When the PSA went up the PET scan showed nothing. Big time relief. I do not know about you my friends but getting PET scans and PSA is torture. So stressful.

I took just one shot of Lupron and had major side-effects . Severe muscle pain, fatigue and pain at side of injection that I was not expecting. So I took Eligard from that point on. My case may not be the norm . It is widely used and maybe cheaper than Eligard.
