Metanx
There’s research showing that Metanx, a prescription Vitamin B supplement, promotes significant increases in epidermal nerve fiber density and reduced paresthesia after six months of taking it daily. Has anyone tried and benefitted from taking Metanx? My neuro wasn’t familiar with it but when I explained it contains B6 she grew concerned. Apparently too much B6 causes neuropathy.

Yes he had 3 mri of complete spine. It did show degeneration of dorsal nerve bundle but not much else. He has markets for lupus but not enough to call it lupus. He does have MGUS which can lead to cancer. He was heavily exposed to agent Orange in Vietnam even got sprayed with it. Thanks for your reply.
Diagnosed with idiopathic small fiber neuropathy in feet. Neurologist prescribed Metanx for me. Used it for six months, no change in my symptoms but hopefully it'll work for you!
What are your symptoms? If you don’t mind me asking
Hello @ccstahl. I see you've had several members join you to discuss Meganx, which is great! You will notice I did move your post into an existing discussion on the same topic, which you can find here:

My symptoms are burning soles of my feet which limits activities, walking, time on my feet etc and eliminated any chance of running or cycling.
I was put on Metanx by one doctor. When I finally got an appointment with a neurologist, he thoroughly tested me and discovered through blood work that my neuropathy was caused by an autoimmune disease, CIDP, but the Metanx caused my B6 levels to be dangerously high, in the toxic range. My B1 levels were dangerously low. I am now stabilized through infusions of IV/IG (2 every 3 weeks) and weekly physical therapy. This has slowed the deterioration of the disease. My advice is do not go on Metanx unless prescribed by your neurologist. It is not something to be taken lightly and the prescriber really needs to understand your medical condition as Metanx can make your situation worse.
Thank you, I appreciate your very informative input
Laminectomy a year ago immediately relieved pain in hips and legs that had rendered me almost unable to walk. But I have been left with (neuropathy) numbness and tingling in my feet, but so far not a lot of pain. The numbness does affect my balance just a bit, and I do go to PT. About a month ago, I saw my podiatrist to see if she had anything to offer for the neuropathy. That was when I learned of Metanx. She gave me a prescription and I have to say that, even though it has only been a few weeks, I am already noticing less symptoms in my feet. I had already tried Gabapentin, Lyrica, Amitryptiline... and none of those really helped. I was on Benfotiamine and R Alpha Lipoic Acid for a year and can't say they really helped. I had my B vitamin levels checked and my B6 was very much in the normal range. B12 was fine, also!
From what I understand, vitamin levels can "look" fine in tests, but some people have problems with the vitamins getting "into" the cells. There are so many variations and each of us is unique.
I will wait a couple of months and check specifically for B6 again, as I am aware of the info on B6 Toxicity. From what I understand, it usually takes several months for Metanx to produce results... My podiatrist said her father took it for years and it seemed to help him. It's pricey. Insurance doesn't cover it and I am paying $65/month. This has been my brief, thus-far experience with Metanx. I'd love to hear from others who have taken it and what their experience has been. So far, I have noticed no negative side effects .... and the early indication seems to be positive as are already feeling a bit better. Best to all... Mike
I just started on Metanx a week r so ago. As you said, I haven’t had any noticeable change in my numbness (thank God, no pain)
We’ll see if it ends up working. As far as balance goes, you said it - the numbness REALLY causes problems! In fact, I fell yesterday (in the tile bathroom, no less!). I was sore all day.
Yes, I know it’s pricey. I looked on Amazon, and didn’t see the exact same thing, so I haven’t yet made up my mind if I’m going to continue taking it, but I am glad you mentioned it may take awhile to kick in.
Good luck to both of us!
@wascaly Yes, the doctor told me it could take up to 3 months to make a noticeable difference. I've only been taking it for a few weeks, but I do notice something different. Not enough to say it's actually the supplement. But I am keeping fingers crossed.
Thankfully, I haven't fallen. But the wobble is definitely there. I'm sure it would help if I went to the gym three days a week. They have yoga classes and balance classes, as well. I just have to make up my mind to do it! 😉
As you said, best of luck to both of us! Keep me posted on your Metanx experience! Mike
