Has anyone had a CT guided lung needle biopsy is it fairly safe?

I have multiple moderate to large groundglass and tree in bud nodules in my lungs since 2019 which have not been diagnosed. it shows growing each time CT was done. 2019 Bronchoscopy was negative for infection and malignancy. Aug 2022 bronchoscopy with biopsy was negative also for malignancy and infection. I have no respiratory symptoms at all. I still have no diagnosis. My pulmo wants to do a CT guided lung needle biopsy scheduled on March 23,2023. I am somehow more scared of the idea of a needle going into my lungs than the bronchoscopy with biopsy. Has anyone had a CT needle biopsy and was it ok?

Hi, This is Vickie R. I had a tumor discovered in my left lung July 2022 while I was on vacation. The local hospital did a needle biopsy of the tumor to get the diagnosis of SCLC. I had no problems with the procedure. When seeking treatment in my hometown at Mayo, they also did a needle biopsy of the tumor. The treatments for non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer are different. Again I had no problems with the biopsy and SCLC was confirmed. I think it is a simple procedure with very few problems. As with anything surgical there are always risks. I believe the risks for this procedure are low. I was anxious to get the diagnosis confirmed and be able to get on with the treatment for my lung cancer.
Sometimes faith is needed. I wish you well. Vickie

I had a CT guided needle biopsy for a 2.4 cm nodule. I'd been injured by a bicyclist a few years prior, and had a traumatic chest, and scapula injury with hemothorax. I developed a small pneumothorax that caused me to heal from the Vats resection more slowly, and had to wear a chest tube for awhile at home. There were pulmonary adhesions from the accident we hadn't known about. The teaching hospital did a great job with the biopsy, and were very cautious about me not moving then, or in recovery.
