I was told after 2 surgeries (partial, then total thyroidectomy) that it was totally contained, no lymph node involvement and I would be fine, even though it turned out to be tall cell papillary. A month or 2 later, getting ready for RAI I had a chest cat scan- which showed nodules in the lungs- most likely lung metastases. I plan on asking my new cancer center to do a whole body scan or PET scan to make sure there isn t even more spread. I know tests involve radiation, but sometimes it is worth it.
