Those of you who are taking oral NAC, are you taking it on an empty stomach? That is what I understand is optimal, but when I do so I get a terrible pain in my throat and stomach so now I take it with meals; two 600mg tablets a day, one in the morning and one at night. Since I'm taking it with food, I've doubled the dose, figuring that at least some of it might be absorbed. Reading through this thread I see that NAC can cause insomnia, which I have at least once a week, so maybe I'll just take both capsules in the morning.

I take oral NAC 600mg 2X a day. In the morning, right after a light breakfast. In the evening, I try for 2 hours after dinner for all my evening meds, otherwise a handful of pretzels or crackers. I have never been able to take most meds "on an empty stomach" without pain - lucky I never had to take thyroid meds!

As for insomnia - I haven't noticed, but I am in general a poor sleeper, so never know if meds are a problem...
